It's odd how the 7mm-08 has had such a resergance with "rifle nuts" after decades of general disinterest from the shooting world.

I had a Tikka T3X in 7mm-08 that I sold earlier this year. I loved it and probably shouldn’t have sold it but not much use for it here in Ohio. I should try and sell the dies, brass and bullets I have.

7mm-08 seems like a natural, "Jeff Cooper-approved" cartridge for a "'scout' rifle," having more power than .223, a little flatter shooting and less recoil than .308, but neither Ruger nor Savage offers it in those models. (I have no particular use for one other than simply wanting, and don't have money anyway.)

Deer just really aren't hard to kill. I think the advantages that the .284 bullet has over .277 or .308 bullets are not really interesting enough to most hunters to make them choose the 7-08 over a 270, 30-06, or 308. Most deer hunters don't know what BC is, or simply don't care. It doesn't make a hill of beans to the average deer hunter who shoots average 120 pound animals inside of 200 yards almost exclusively. I kill most of my deer with a .243 now.

Hunting is still the world of asking yourself "If I forget ammo at deer camp, can I buy it at walmart or will my buddy have some I can borrow."

And I am not saying anything negative about hunters... My shooting and gun knowledge is 99% based around hunting. I own bolt action rifles in many calibers but I do not even own an AR.
And I know a few hunters who really do understand BC and SD and what they mean for hunting. Most of those guys are reloaders. For every one of them I know, I know 10+ who have never heard of it.

I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

All above is correct but it’s nice to e able to take your deer rifle to the range and do some longer distance work. Especially those guys that don’t have a safe full of bolt guns.
