Want to mount on a Ruger Ranch Rifle. Went to the website and saw multiple offerings. Use of rifle would be primarily home defense and occasional 4 legged critter removal (coyotes) nothing beyond 75-100 yards. Opinions of the EOTech model best suited for these tasks? Happy with a 552 mounted on my 196-series Mini. Frequently shoot it in the 50 to 75 yard range. Eotech mount 01 by kpkina, on Flickr

I would not use an Eotech on anything but a range toy. I have a few different models and the battery life is abysmal. I would recommend Aimpoint of your choice. Here is an article with some comparisons.

rbdub Thanks for the comparison on the battery life. U.S. Army 11F4P Vietnam 69-70 NRA Life Member

Got rid of my EOTECHs years ago because they were constantly eating batteries when not in use. Even if that’s no longer an issue, the bulk, weight, and price keep me from going back for another look.

If you don’t need night vision capability, go with the EXPS-2. The EXPS-3 is still very popular in SOF circles. I prefer the EXPS-3. I have no problems with battery life on any I’ve owned or any we issue at work. But, changing out a single 123 battery isn’t that big a deal to me every few months. Whenever I turn it on and the reticle flashes, I still have several hours of use left. And I use the optic several days a week.

I suggest taking a look at the Holosun AEMS. I picked up an EXPS3 early this summer, and the AEMS a few months ago, and I've put at least a couple thousand rounds through each. I would say the AEMS is better suited for home defense based on the shake-awake and battery life. I think the only thing it really gives up to the Eotech overall is the bigger window, but for that, you get a lighter optic on a smaller footprint with massively better battery life plus it runs off solar when it's in bright enough environments. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

^^^ And also save you a few $! Aimpoint is the same. It's a few bucks cheaper for the models without the night vision capability. As far as the EOTech's Mine (older 552) was just "meh"... I liked the circle-dot reticle and the size of the glass for my field of view. Outside of that, I found it to be big, bulky and ate batteries. It was on my duty weapon, and was in and out of the trunk of a squad car. YES, I did have problems with the POA Shift in cold weather. That problem has been rectified, and if I had to get an EOTech, I'd go with the smaller EXPS ones. https://www.eurooptic.com/eote...ographic-sights.aspx I like my Aimpoint Comp M-4 and my Sig Romeo. Aimpoint is on my duty gun, and gets pretty beat up and knocked around. I'm switching the battery out -/+ 3 to 4 months. It's held up through a TON of abuse and hasn't failed through some pretty harsh conditions. The Sig Romeo is holding up pretty well too. Light, small and decent battery life. https://www.eurooptic.com/aimpoint-comp.aspx https://www.eurooptic.com/sig-...t-reflex-sights.aspx I have a Holosun on a pistol. Looking at some of the Sig and Holosun sights, I'm liking the solar chargers on the sights. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot.
