My Henry…put me in the woods with a box of empty pill bottles, or a bag of dollar store army men, or an area full of critters during hunting season, a brick of cheap .22 ammo, and my Henry, and I can entertain myself for hours. Can it shoot 1/4” bulls at 50 like the others. Hell no. I can’t even see the bulls anymore without a 20-power scope. But it’s got a Skinner peep sight, a gold bead front, an octagon barrel, a large loop lever, and an action smooth as a baby’s butt, and I’ve had more fun with this rifle than all others combined. Yep, I’ll keep my Henry.

.22 rifles are so much fun to shoot! My first rifle was a 10/22 I received for 8th grade graduation and have enjoyed it ever since then. I recently acquired a Winchester model 69 from the early 40s and it is great as well!

Of the three that I have, a 10/22, a Marlin 39A Golden Trigger, and a Henry in .22 wmr, I enjoy shooting the ‘vintage’ Marlin the most. It has the era correct ‘tube’ scope on it.
It is very accurate, and something about the ‘old school’ look and feel is appealing and satisfying.

I picked up one of these earlier this week...
I haven't shot it yet (needs a scope, more on that later), but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be my favorite .22
ETA - Obviously SIGforum is once again to blame here, well that and my weakness, but in my defense 'pace40' and 'sigfreund' were enablers with their recent .22LR threads, expounding on the virtues of their drool worthy target .22's!
Background - I saw this Ruger 10/22 'USA Shooting 2024' Rifle about a month ago and my LGS and it caught my eye. It was on consignment, Unfired and LNIB, and it called out to me...but I resisted. I had always wanted a KIDD Innovations 10/22 'Tack-Driver' but never pulled the trigger. Well, I was at my LGS again last week and low and behold, it was still there, so at that point, due to the recent threads in the Rifle Room, my defenses were compromised and suddenly, I was seriously considering it. Last weekend I decided I'd head over to my LGS on Monday, and unless I found a good reason to NOT buy it (assuming it was still there), it would come home with me...AND now it's mine!
Sooo, onto the hunt for a Scope - Due to numerous posts by 'pace40 and 'usncorpsman' I'm leaning heavily towards an SWFA SS, but I haven't decided which fixed magnification MOA Gen 2 model to go with just yet. I'm partial to the side-focus feature of the 10X, but I think I might want more magnification. I'm a Lefty so the side focus preference might not make sense to any of you RH shooters, but I've gotten used to adapting to rifles w/o ambi features over the years, so manipulating controls with my left hand while holding the rifle by the forend in my right hand is second nature at this point. I often wish I still had my first .22; a Remington .22 521T Target rifle I had in 1959. I took a class at an athletic club in Portland OR for 2 years. I had to take a city bus from my school to the club... with my rifle! No problem back then. We shot indoors @ 50', open sights. We would earn NRA marksmanship awards for different levels of difficulty. I did OK but one of my best friends got to the top level. After he won that the instructor proposed a challenge to him: shoot through a peppermint lifesaver @ 50' without breaking it. All 12 of us saw him do it! This guy went on to being a Green Beret during Vietnam. Love that Henry you have.

Yea, I think the SWFA scopes are a steal at their price point. Less money for scope, more money for ammo. I guess which one depends on what you plan on shooting.

I took my son to the range last week with the Winchester 9422 I put however many tens or hundreds of thousands of rounds through in my youth. For a while there, I was going through a brick of ammo a week on it. Great memories, so much fun. It’ll be “ours” until it’s all his. Hard to beat a .22 lever in for pure grins.

Get the fixed 10x. It is very easy to get behind and shoot all day. I have the 12 and 16 as well. The 10x is my favorite and rides on my CZ 452 Super Exclusive.

My Nylon 66 and Colt Peacemaker .22 are my default favorites. By default I am the custodian of my brother’s 39A. I need to get it out more often. It’ll be one of the firearms I want to stay in the family, and won’t ever be part of thinning the herd as I age.

Looks like a fun and useful rifle, I've always admired lever guns but have never owned one.
Like you I have multiple .22 rifles from Anschutz to Weatherby and if I had to pick a favorite it might be the CZ 452 Full Stock. It's not the best rifle I have or the most accurate but it's well made and more accurate than I am, which is good enough. And it just feels perfectly balanced for me, makes me smile every time I bring it up to my shoulder.
No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

I also have my Dad's 39A. It's the rifle he used to teach both my brother and I how to shoot. I've no idea how many squirrels and soda cans and tree branches we killed with that gun. I'd prefer to keep it in the family, the trouble is that I'm really the only serious gun guy in the family and I never had any kids. We'll see.
