Someone should make SD style replacement HD... there is a market

Hey Cavscout - I hear you on the handguard - the 14" carbine handguard is just too long and weighs just over 14 oz. I was able to add the 8" pistol handguard with angled foregrip, QD sling socket, 2" rail adapter & Streamlight TLR-2 HL at a total weight of just 15.3 oz.

Has anyone experienced any issues with the bolt not closing fully when using the charging handle? When I insert a mag with the bolt held open and I drive it home with the bolt release button, it closes fully every time. However, when I start with the bolt closed and attempt to chamber a round by using the charging handle, the bolt doesn't fully lock closed. This happens about 50% of the time. This is on a gen2 with gen2 mags. I do reload and have only tried this on my reloads, so they may be the culprit. I also have a Geissele SSA trigger, which has performed flawlessly for 1000 rounds. The gun has operated flawlessly besides this one issue for all 1000 rounds--no jams, FTF, FTE, etc. I clean my guns religiously with a sonic cleaner and lube with CLP so I do not suspect fouling. Thanks for any help with this!

After reading all 100 pages, I have decided to pull the trigger on a MPX. I was on the fence about getting a SBR or getting a pistol and making it an SBR. I see no reason to spend the extra money on a factory SBR when I can Form 1 a pistol and probably get it approved faster. I have decided to get a Gen 1 because I am planning on getting the Xchange Kit to make it a 357 sig. I understand Sig will give me a complete gen 2 upper for the price of the Xchange kit. I do have a few questions for the guys who have been here from the beginning.


1. Is there any reason I should get a factory SBR over a pistol and Form 1?
2. Will the $25 Paper Clip work with both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 uppers?
3. Will the Gen 2 upper come with the Ambi Charging Handle or should I get one now?


Any other input is appreciated as I will be grabbing the next pistol I find that is at a good price.

Gen1 uppers are no longer being produced, though they will be supported by SIG.

If you are buying a Gen1 gun it's either new-old-stock or pre-owned.

Hey Steve, thought you would find it interesting that I had emailed Primary Arms about a Geissele 3SG trigger for my MPX and they sent me a link to your original blog that it would void the warranty. I sent them the link to Sig's recent Youtube video in which they stated it would no longer void the warranty and they were happy to hear the news.

Don't think I have seen this posted here but it looks like Lancer is producing more for the MPX (and MCX) than just mags.

If I get a gen 2 and want to switch callibers, what will that take. Just a barrel or more and can I do the swap in the field or will I need some special skills or tools?

From what I understand you'd first purchase the caliber-x-change kit - then a caliber swap with a Gen 2 would require the removal of the two barrel screws under the handguard to replace the barrel itself (then re-zero sights/optic), swapping the the bolt, and a different magazine.

Sorry, been traveling for work and didn't have a chance to snap a pic. I ended up throwing an HK Parts tri-lug on it, and it just barely clears the hand guard. When I get the suppressor, I will probably get a carbon fiber hand guard that covers as much of it as possible.

Local gun store just got in a box of these stocks. Now I'm wanting to get an MPX.

Check out Sig's YouTube MPX FAQ video, it specifically states that aftermarket triggers do not void the MPX warranty. However, the MPX may wear the triggers faster due to its operation.

I called in earlier this week and was told the 8" replacement MPX barrels are now available, and that the 4.5" barrels would likely be around the same price. The price given for the 8" was $327, so now I'm thinking I will just send my barrel to get cut to 4" and rethreaded to 1/2x28. I haven't heard anything so far about reliability issues with the 8" being cut down. The 16" carbine has been discussed as a barrel to not cut under a certain length.

Benelli M4 barrels are $900. Hopefully it won't be that bad.

My 4.5" barrel that was cut down, runs flawlessly.

Mine as well. If the 8" is available from SIG I will most likely purchase it as well, but love the 4.5 with the suppressor underneath the hand guard.

Yes, I can't wait to get my suppressor under the hand guard. I pulled my baffles out of my Octane 45 the other night to see what it would look like with the shorter barrel and can't wait.

I think I will own an 8" for the MPX again, but it will be when I get the Caliber-x-change kit. The short 9mm makes sense suppressed and keeps it very compact. Love this platform, great first venture into NFA!

I can't tell much of a difference between the 8" and 4.5". The Octane 45 sounds a bit quieter with the 9mm endcap. I think the Osprey 45 sounds a bit quieter then the Octane, but now that I've cut it down it won't fit and it (in my opinion) doesn't look as good as the Octane. I've got a AAC Ti-Rant 9 coming so I will compare it against both the others.

Then Octane 45 it was...especially with the caliber conversion. How do you run your suppressor, direct thread or 3-lug? I've got a TROSUSA 13.5x1 3-lug and Griffin 3-lug adapter that I have yet to use. Decided to wait on the Rocksett until I have the barrel cut, just been using direct thread with fixed barrel spacer so far. Will probably sell the 13.5x1 3-lug and order a 1/2x28 since it reduces length of the 3-lug and is a more standard thread.

Currently running direct thread. I like the QD and 3 lug idea but I'm up to about 10 cans so I just direct thread everything these days.
