Co-worker is wanting to buy a deer rifle for next season & a friend of his offered him a Rem 770 with a (assuming included when it was new) scope.

I know nothing about these, but at around $300 are there other/better options to consider?

My dad recently picked up a Savage Axis & says it's a nice shooter after replacing the non-adjustable trigger with a Timney.

The Remington 770 is considered junk by most shooters. They are intended for people who hunt once a year and want to spend the least money possible. You can buy them brand new with scope for $250.

Tell your friend to buy a Savage Axis, Ruger American or TC Compass.

Friends don't let friends buy Remington 770's!
