Hmmmmm. One of those rifles looks awful familiar. [/QUOTE] I like that flash hider. Is that the closest I can easily find in the US that will mimic the original? I might buy one for my 556. It kind of reminds me of an L1A1 flash hider. Great looking rifles in the thread! Thanks

CDNN Has then for $20 right now. I prefer it over the birdcage style that comes on the WCA 551 I bought.

Yessir, that's where I saw it. I posted a question (another thread, which has gone answered) about a SigSauer thread protector also at CDNN. If that one will suit my purpose, then I'll probably buy both. Thanks!

Those extended style flash hiders Sig offers aren't really "correct" from what I've seen. My 551A1 came with that long one and I swapped it for the version offered by MFI "Pickin' stones and pullin' teats is a hard way to make a living. But, sure as God's got sandals, it beats fightin' dudes with treasure trails." "We've been tricked, we've been backstabbed, and we've been quite possibly, bamboozled."

They're supposed to mimic that built-in version of a 551 SB I think. To wit...check this pair out that just sold: http://www.gunbroker.com/Item/639207983

The pic I posted last page of my four rifles shows that they're all pretty similar; I believe the WCA used either a real 551 flash hider or the MFI version and its nearly identical to what's on teh 556R or 522. Here's a link showing currently offered configs from SAN:

WCA rifles used a standard A2 bird cage flash hider. The only things Swiss on those guns are the lower, handguard, stock, and mags. --------------------------------------------- "AND YEA THOUGH THE HINDUS SPEAK OF KARMA, I IMPLORE YOU...GIVE HER A BREAK, LORD". - Clark W. Griswald

What do you think a fair price is these days for a pre-ban 551 with barrel extension?

$5000 relatively fast sale, $5500 sits longer but sells in a month or so, $6k and it languishes on the boards unsold. The JDI 551s likely took a bit of wind out of the sail of the PD trade 551s, though the JDI will require 922(r) parts while the PD trade-in will not. --------------------------------------------- "AND YEA THOUGH THE HINDUS SPEAK OF KARMA, I IMPLORE YOU...GIVE HER A BREAK, LORD". - Clark W. thanks, that's what I was thinking too. ALYUAZ is selling his but initially was asking $6700 but now moved it up to $7700. He's got an optic on there so obviously that's worth a bit more than a rifle alone. Interested but at 7700, I can get a JDI 551 & 751. I do like the original grey finishes though.

Who here remembers this? It was called a "SIG551 Micro" as sold by DS Arms back in the '90s. I just had to get one of their front ends. One day I'll actually build something with it. “Elections have consequences, and at the end of the day, I won.” – Barack Hussein Obama, January 23, 2009

Nice! How does that compare with a 553?

I have no clue as I don't have a 553 to compare it with. “Elections have consequences, and at the end of the day, I won.” – Barack Hussein Obama, January 23, 2009

8.9" barrel and short gas? Looks like it.

I remember seeing those in SG News. I forgot you have one. These are the same length gas system as the 556 pistol and 556 patrol; about 1/2 inch longer than the 552/553. --------------------------------------------- "AND YEA THOUGH THE HINDUS SPEAK OF KARMA, I IMPLORE YOU...GIVE HER A BREAK, LORD". - Clark W. For those interested, Gunbroker has a couple of real SIG551's up for sale.. both in the $7000 range and reserve prices above that. One of the guns is a Mike Ott 551 with the welded muzzle extension. Another is a post ban green MG - only to be sold in cut up kit form as it's a postie MG (post May 86) http://www.gunbroker.com/item/677633499 http://www.gunbroker.com/item/680395032
