These have caught my eye and I’m lacking a shotgun.

The Tactical is a fair bit more $ but if it’s built with better parts or more reliable then that’s not a huge deal.

This would be for general fun use, local 3 gun type matches where we generally don’t need extended magazine tubes and other things. No trap or skeet etc. Not for home defense as I prefer a carbine for that.

The A300 Patrol and the 1301 Tactical while externally they look similar they are in fact completely different. The a300 has the spring recoil assembly that is behind the action and inside the rear of the stock. The bolt is completely different than the 1301. The 1301 had the spring assembly in front of the bolt riding along the magazine tube under the hand guard. The bolt assembly is IMO is better built than that of the a300. When both guns are disassembled it is clear why one is more expensive than the other. Is it worth the extra premium? The A300 is a fine shotgun and probably more than anyone would need. The 1301 may be the pinnacle of the combat auto shotgun. I have 4 A400 shotguns on which the 1301 is based, one with north of 10k rounds through it. I have a Benelli M4, Remington 11-87 Police, and an old Scattergun Tech Border Patrol 870 but the 1301 Tactical is still on my radar. The difference in price is quite substantial and I think it would be hard for most budget minded buyers to justify the premium. Having owned both hunting versions a40l/a300 ultima, I personally will buy the 1301 Tactical if I decide to add another shotgun. I also wouldn’t fault anyone for buying the a300 as it is still a hell of a gun for the money.

As an aside, I shoot a lot of shotguns shells a year both hunting, clay sports, and combat. Somewhere between 4K-5k shells a year give or take. I love my M4 but the cost to make it the way I wanted 922(r) compliant was exorbitant. I could buy a 1301 similarly configured for about 1k less. I can outrun the M4 but have never outrun my a400s. Can’t say I have ever tried to outrun the a300.

I heard the A300 is single action bar vs the dual bar on the 1301. I love my 1301 however I bought it like 2 years ago. Now the price seems to have increased by like $300 or more.

The 1301 is a great but as it approaches Benelli M4 prices it becomes a chevy vs ford (blink vs argo) argument.

I have never owned a semi-auto shotgun, but while I was considering the M4, the 1301 has moved to the top of my list.

That is correct. The A300 has a bar that rides over the hammer behind the bolt like a Super Black Eagle. The 1301 has two bars going forward the bolt which make up the forward spring assembly. The prices have crept up $300 from a few years ago and definitely stepped up since the release of A300 Patrol. There’s currently about a $500 difference between them, which is difficult to justify to the average buyer. I doubt that person would ever feel under gunned with the A300. As a happy owner of a Benelli M4 I couldn’t justify recommending it over a 1301. That is especially true if one wants the M4 configured to 7rd 922(r) configuration. You’re starting $300 higher and I put close to 1k more into it.

Thanks all! Looks like pennies will be saved to grab a 1301 when I can.

The 1301 used to be available for a three digit price but with the release of the A300 Patrol slotted to be a pump action replacement for LEA's, they've pushed the 1301 WAY up there in price. I've own multiple 1301's and currently have a 1301 Marine Tactical.

The A300 is terrific. If I were to own only one and it was the Patrol, I'd be VERY happy. I own the Tiger Stripe release edition plus an LE SKU Benelli M4 and the aforementioned 1301. They're all excellent and you cannot go wrong (Benelli is owned by Beretta after all).

A 1301 Mod 2 marine, I couldn't all away from that. Wonder if it'll ever make production in that configuration?

Don’t see the stock is different, but I’d like to get a hold of that new handguard.

I looked at two 1301 Tacticals at Buds Gun Shop today in Lexington Kentucky. On both of them the front sight base was not centered on the barrel. Both were canted slightly to the left. If you buy one make sure you inspect it in person.
