Anyone have, or seen, one of the new S&W AXE guns in .300 BO? If so, I’m wondering what buffer it comes with from the factory. I suspect standard carbine, but there’s a chance it could be a H1. I’ve got an upper coming and would like to know since I’ll be providing my own buffer. TIA.

Never found out what the factory one comes with, but I tried mine out with a H1 buffer, and it ran fine unsuppressed with two types of 200 grain subs plus a couple of 124 grain supers. Loaded single rounds in the mag and it locked back every time, so I called it good. Put on my Hexium 762, and it still ran reliably. The GVAC system seemed to work as I didn’t get any gas to the face, and little came out of the ejection port.

Quite a difference from the DD PDW, which is a gas blaster out of the ejection port. I’ve got to work on that one, but the Axe (Gemtech) is fine out of the box. Wish they had used a bigger handguard though, as it’s pretty close to the gas block/bore evaluator and it starts getting warm.

Obligatory photo.
