New (to me) M1A in a Sage EBR chassis

A very good friend of mine knew I had been dreaming of adding one of these to my stash and recently surprised me with this! People often say, “That is too much!” when gifted something, but this truly was TOO MUCH!!

That’s awesome! That’s a great friend you have there! Let me know if you need any info on that rifle. Appears to be an ARMS 18 scope mount.

Tony, I am really only “end user” familiar with the M1A from my days in the Navy. When I used them during my mis-spent youth, I just made them go “pew pew” then handed them back to the armory. LOL! Now I will need to learn all the ins and outs and particulars of the platform.

Here is a close up of the mount:

Tony, now that you offer it, I do have a question:

I keep hearing conflicting reports about suppressing this particular rifle. Some say, “You must have an adjustable gas plug or you will damage the op rod!” (Schuester (sp?) keeps getting mentioned, but they are nowhere to be found) while others say, “They are self-regulating and you don’t need anything.” Most recently I heard about some spindle modification for regulating gas for shooting suppressed.

I welcome any thoughts and opinions, even if the opinion is “Suppressing an M1A is an exercise in futility”

Yes, a Schuster gas plug will solve your suppressor problems.

At a minimum, get a vented gas piston from Sadlak. (Select the option "Grooved NM" below)
https://www.sadlak.com/product-page/gas-piston

The spindle valves are an option as well and can be found here...

And while we're on the subject, I recommend the EBR RPS trigger. It gives you the proper angle and allows your finger to rest comfortably on the trigger for pistol-gripped rifles.

If you don't your finger will get sore over time as the tip of your finger will overhang the bottom of the standard trigger. I was the one who told Art Neergard to make an EBR trigger, so he modified his CNC program to cut a different trigger profile.

Plus, you can comfortably and safely adjust your trigger pull and creep to a much more desirable pull weight with no creep. I have three of his triggers.

Tony I have been thinking of using my can on my M1A, midway has a front sight adapter to make it 5/8 x 25
https://www.midwayusa.com/prod...004722325?pid=620345

Will adding the gas plug reduce the pressure with the can on it or should I get the sadlak? Someone mentioned in the adjustable plug reviews that it didn’t work with a suppressor .

Thank you for the info! Going to be getting the trigger ASAP, Is the hammer worth adding as a kit for $90?

That adapter should work just fine. As for the Schuster, it should work just fine for the suppressor. I need to get one myself again. I sold my last two.

rkentm- I'd pass on the speed hammer. It was intended for service rifle shooters who shoot in the offhand position as it has a faster hammer swing, meaning you have less time to drift off the target while in the standing position, thus giving you a higher score.

Is there an appreciable difference in recoil between a traditional full stock (wood or synthetic) and the metal folding stock shown on the one in the photo?

Compared to a GI issued configuration, yes! The SAGE with a scope add a considerable amount of weight to the rifle. Recoil is like an AR at that point, depending on the ammo used. A heavy McMillan stock with a medium weight or heavy barrel will also feel considerably lighter recoil over GI.

The SAGE chassis uses a telescoping stock, not a folder.

Of course Tony is 100% correct and this rifle is a BEAST in this chassis. Configured as above, my EBR weighs in at 16.1lbs (w/empty mag).

Very nice set up. That is exactly a set up that I always dreamed of. But I cannot find any EBR stock when I wanted one. I also ended up selling my M1A with the JAE stock.

MikeinNC - Sorry to have to ask this but I want to be 100% clear on your question and Tony’s answer.

Is Tony stating that with this adapter you linked from Midway, I can use a suppressor on my M1A and this adapter is all that is needed? Thanks for helping me understand this before proceeding with my order to Midway. Mark

That's correct. Delta-P design makes one as well out of titanium. Currently out of stock though.

SIGARMSP226, That is exactly the adapter that I got, and it took all of a couple of minutes to install.
