I took my new M40 build out to 300 and 600 for the first time today. I tested several loads and it went pretty well. I'm still getting used to shooting this rifle. It's way different than shooting my M14's. I struggled a little bit at 300 getting a proper setup with my VS sandbag. I ended up putting another mat over the sandbag and that helped get me off the ground a little.

Each group was a different powder charge. I shot all 10 for the first string then realized I needed to save some for the 600 and ended up shooting 5 for subsequent strings; 5 at 300 and 5 at 600.

Any shots not in the X-ring or 10-ring were the first shots ever at that distance. I only shot it at 100 before this.

Here's the 300 yard target...

Four groups at 600. This was the first and I just wanted group size, so I let them all land in the 9-ring. I made my scope adjustments to dial them all into the X-ring after this. I only adjusted the scope after firing a set of 5, never during the set.

Of the last 15 shots, the shooting software said I had eleven X's and four 10's. Looking at the actual paper target, I had twelve X's and three 10's. If the first five shots were on the correct waterline, I would have had three of four more X's with the last shot(s) in the 10-ring.

So in perfect conditions with unlimited time to get on target and break a clean shot, this rifle will clean targets at 300 and 600 yards. I finished shooting the 600 yard line at noon, so I was battling a lot of mirage. And there were a couple of shots that I was not sure I broke clean, so some of the shots in the 10-ring were called.
