Anyone have an air rifle with noise reduction on it? How well does the noice reduction work? .177 or 22?

I chose a .22 and use the heavier style pellet (14g +), so as to keep it under the speed of sound.

Gamo whisper fusion is also quiet and accurate. At those speeds be aware it's not flat shooting to 100+ yds.

Pneumatic guns can be made very quiet (within reason those 50 caliber beasts etc. need a big can Smile)

Spring guns while the report can be made quieter most of the noise comes from the action of the piston and spring and there is really no way to quiet that beyond what a good tune will do.

I've shot a PCP gun with a LCD (lead dust collector) and without. It makes a big difference in the noise. Without some sort of moderator, the PCP guns can be very loud. Much louder than spring guns.

Depending on desires, have you tried the various low noise 22 lr ammo options?

I mention because one can get to a pellet rifle noise level & quieter easily with 22 ammo.

As was noted above a bolt action .22 with .22CB/collibri etc. is indeed as quiet or quieter then most airguns. Likely not as legal however (although you’d be surprised at the laws on lots of books regarding airguns. Frown)

Thanks for the tips. Have my 1st rifle bolt action 22 and will star with the CB caps. If that doesn't suit me by an air rifle with 22 subsonic capabilities.

https://www.aguilaammo.com/ammunition/rimfire?

Here is a link with some quiet ammo options. I have 2 types with a 20 grain bullet. A while back they had options of 325 or 500 fps, now I see 420. With the 325 you have to be aware of sticking a bullet in a rifle barrel, potentially.

I see CCI has a similar version, another option. I have dispatched possums & pigeons with the 500 fps ammo.

I have a Gamo Whisper Fusion Mach 1 in .22
It’s super quiet and the loudest part about it is the pellet impacting the target.
It’ll do everything a .22 rimfire rifle will do under 100 yards with no muzzle flash.

I have suppressed .22s as well.

I believe they both have a place in the collection.
