Well I just fixed an issue. I have a 44 revolver but no rifle to go with it. That has been remedied. I found myself in a gunstore not on my way home. And they had 2 44magnum Rossi lever guns. One was blued and had gold lever and band and was ugly AF. But there was an all stainless 20” that was just wright. So I took it home. Yesterday I went to the range and ran some Rounds thru it after I put a peep sight in the silly safety hole on top of the bolt. And removed the giant buckhorn rear sight. I was able to hit a 5” circle at 50 yards with 44 specials and if I cover the circle at 100, it prints right on target. I did have to drift the front sight a pencil line to the left of center to get it perfect. But years ago I won a karma for one of shooboys hammers and I have it in my range bag. So I was able to fix it on the spot. Got side tracked with Mrs. Mikes To Do list and I’ll whip up some real 44 magnums tomorrow and try those. I've never shot one but I've handled a few. I almost bought one a few years back, but ended up getting a good deal on the Marlin that I really wanted instead. It's hard not to love a levergun. I'll be interested to hear how yours does as you try out different loads. My 1894P in .44 is pretty particular.

92, I have a trapper in 357 and it was what you expect a cheap rifle to be. I wound up slathering the insides with valves grinding compound after de-burring everything inside it. Then i levered it about 300 times then washed it out. Now it’s smooth. This new one was smooth from the box. I took it apart and lipped a coil off the ejector and installed (fabricated) an aperture sight I had laying around. Other than that it’s smooth. Their QC guy is on the ball vs a decade ago. I must have gotten the next one on the assembly line because you just described the one I had. How's the loading gate on these newer ones? The one on mine was so stiff I almost needed to wear gloves to get a full tube loaded. "The Truth, when first uttered, is always considered heresy."

Tailhook, I got my finger caught in it and it didn’t cut me, it was relieved on the inside of the frame-surprise. The gate itself was hard to shove in, so I pulled it off when I was monkeying with the bolt top aperture and filed a crescent along the top side of it to thin down the springiness (that’s a real word fellas) effectively making the spring thinner top to bottom while looking at it from the gate. There’s a video on doing that in you tube somewhere I remember watching a long time ago. This message has been edited. The new versions of the Rossi 92's are definitely improved over the models from years ago. I've posted in threads in the past that all the older Rossi 92's I've had needed to be torn down and deburred. The action parts were always a box of razor blades, and the loading gate was always very sharp. These new models are a vast improvement for sure. Out of habit, when I bought my most current 20" 44mag I took it completely apart and was very pleased to see that all the parts were fairly well de-burred, and required little if any attention. I also replaced the rear Buckhorn, I went with a replacement from IIRC Stevesgunz. It has a small insert which you can do a fine adjustment for windage and held tight with a small screw. Mine runs 44mag jacket softpoints perfectly, and knocks pigs down with authority. ![]()
