CZ 457 American came in yesterday...

ridewvCZ 457 American came in yesterday...
...and naturally I picked it up yesterday

I bought the Combo which comes as a .22LR with a .17 HMR barrel and magazine all packaged in the box. It came with what I'll call average wood which is ok, maybe a little darker than I prefer. So far I can't find any flaws, the margin between the barrel and stock is even and the bolt functions smoothly (especially for a new rifle). Finish on the action and barrels is nicely done but in matte opposed to the gloss on my 452 American.
I haven't shot it as it doesn't come with sights and I haven't put a scope on it yet. I'm waiting a bit to see if I can find a used 3-9 or 2-7 rimfire scope in gloss, if I do I'll put it on the 452 then move the 3-9 matte Leupold over to the 457. (I do have a WTB in the classifieds here). I'm looking forward to seeing how it shoots compared to the 452. In all honesty the two will likely shoot close enough to the same that I'll not notice a difference.

92fstechMan, these CZ rimfires seem popular here lately! They are definitely nice guns. I'm looking forward to your range report and your thoughts on how it compares to the 452.

sjtillI’m going to have to get my 452 Luxe together with my 457 Luxe and the most recent, a 457 VMT.

got2hav1We need pictures! I love the 457. I have three now one of which is an American (which I think is their best looking model). The other two are VPT Manners camo stock and a built up chassis model using KRG Bravo and Lilja barrel. The VPT also has a Lilja barrel.

mike56Spend a little more and put the timmeny flat trigger in it. Easy to do and brings it to another level.

got2hav1Agreed, all mine have Timney triggers installed. The bench rifles are set at 10 ounces.

patwIt is hard to beat a CZ firearm of any type. there is a reason they have lasted as long as they have. Congrats on the new rifle.

Legal BeagleCZ does make beautiful rifles. Always admired them.

Glad to read about yours but want to see it too!

I have difficulty photographing rifles for some reason, and that it's becoming dusk doesn't help, but here is the 457 American.
And the 452 American, the scope on it will move to the 457.

sprg03-A3That’s a very nice stock! I have three Americans, two in 22WMR, all with very nice stocks. They are great rifles.

D_SteveAs impressive as the CZ's are, I'm even more impressed with the wood stacking skills.

captain127Nice rifle.
I myself try to squeeze every bit of accuracy I can out of my 22 rifles, so go for much bigger scopes my current Kidd is wearing a 4-24 vortex strike eagle

ridewvThank you captain.
I'm sure I'm an outlier but try to squeeze the best accuracy I can from my 22 rifles utilizing open sights because I find it both more challenging and fun. These two CZ Americans are the only ones I have that are scoped.

ugeestaI like the wood on yours. The 457 I picked up has a much darker stain on it. Kinda kick myself for not waiting for a better stock, but those rifles are like finding hens teeth around here.
It is a treat to shoot.

ridewvThanks ugesta. The local store did not have a Combo in stock but he got on the computer and located one. Said he has something like 10 different sources for CZ's, one had 2, the others 0. So I had him order this for me sight unseen and I was satisfied when I saw it after it came in because they had a Lux in the display that was on sale but it had *very* plain wood.

hessy2000I have a 457 American, too. Mine has a beautiful stock, and I got it by ordering blindly online. Sheer luck. I put a Burris 8-32x44 scope on it and it shoots sub-MOA even with cheap HV ammo. It outshoots 3x more expensive target rifles. For me, it replaced a 452 that I have had for 25 years. Yes, CZ rimfires are that good

SigSentryCongrats on the CZ. My first was a 513 basic. Later a 452 2E-ZKM. Those 10 round metal mags are typical CZ quality.

ugeestaHere's the wood on mine. I put a Weaver 3x9 scope on it.

I grew up shooting iron sights and still prefer them whenever possible, but as my eyesight declines with age and for certain types of competition shooting I do, a scope of decent magnification is pretty much a requirement.
I shoot some NRL22/PRS type matches, and at my level of eyesight can’t even see the targets with the naked eye, let alone aim at them. When some targets are 1/2 the size of a postage stamp I don’t have a choice.
But like you my first love is iron sights.
