Just bought my first factory assembled AR-15
I've been shooting ARs for 25+ years and finally bought my first factory built gun. Big Grin

I didn't care for the LPVO I bought, so I swapped it out for an Aimpoint Comp M5

What prompted this?
Which factory built it?
Have you shot it yet?
Impressions/review?

Walker that's a fancy AR you got there!

I have built my own ARs since we had a sigforum group buy on stripped AR lowers in 2007. This month I finally bought my first factory assembled AR also. It's a 14.5" mid-length Noveske Nightcap. I like the combination of old carry handle and new free float rail. I could have chopped up a rail and built something similar but the factory package in green is different than everything that I have so I took it home. I haven't taken it to the range yet, the upper is being shipped off to ADCO to swap out from the p&w keymo flash hider.

It’s been at least 15-18 years since I’ve bought a complete AR rifle, and other than a Stoner SR15 Mod0 with an additional 16” 300BO I think was the last, however I’ve bought a few complete uppers in the configuration I wanted. Probably like you and many others I quickly got tired of buying X rifle, then replacing the stock, hand guard, trigger, but even then having leftover parts that turned into complete rifles and unless I sold that rifle at a show, replacing the stock, trigger & hand guard on that “parts gun”.

Damn. You sure went all out with the first factory built unit.

Just out of curiosity, why did you go with the HK? Do you feel like it was worth the price tag so far?

I had the extra money, it was something I've always wanted. Hopefully it will hold it's value or go up a little over the years. Same reason why I got the HK SP5K.

I've only been able to put one mag through it so far, so I can't really say much about it. But it surprised me how heavy it was. I guess I'm use to my home build DI guns. And I was surprised to find HK doesn't put a QD mount on the stock. I think I'm going to put a B5 systems stock on it instead.

Because of the weight, I decided to sell the LPVO and run an Aimpoint Comp M5 instead.

This is HK's solution for the QD mount on the stock. I'm not paying that much. I'll just use a different stock that has a QD mount.

It’s a piston gun with an AGB, so it’s going to be heavier than a DI AR. Plus, HK tends to overbuild their guns. The early A1s with the heavy barrel profile, quad rail, and E1 stock were very hefty. The weight is one of the reasons I went with the 11” barrel.
