At 5'8", my arms are not long enough to put it a comfortable distance from my face. If you think about where your grip hand is on a normally stocked shotgun at your shoulder, you can see how much further you have to push this forward.

I'm also 5'8" and having similar feelings about the 870 Shockwave I built. I'm hoping reduced recoil ammo will solve my worries when I finally shoot it.

How did you build a shockwave?

I bought an 870 with pistol grip from Bud's (model #81187) for about $300 and a Shockwave grip from Shockwave Technologies for about $25. I already had an extra 14" barrel and end cap.

That's why I said "clearly". I could have said "obviously". I didn't pretend to be breaking new ground.

Why aren't they releasing this in a 20 gauge?

I imagine more people would buy it or at least the ones afraid of the 12 gauge recoil that close to their face

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm wondering if a 20 gauge pellet load (think #4 or 00, as opposed to birdshot or slugs) coming out of that shorter barrel would maintain a useful pattern for a useful distance.

This is not a 10 yard gun. 7 yards is a long ways in a house, where the spread is smaller than your fist.

Understood. My thought was that there were simply bound to be fewer pellets in the smaller hull. With fewer pellets, gaps would have to open up sooner than they would with a 12 gauge load, and the difference may be enough to matter.

I didn't realize you could do that, but it opens up some fun possibilities. Was the 870 transferred to you as a shotgun or a firearm?

Edited to add: Nevermind, I googled it. Now I just need to find a semi auto with a pistol grip Big Grin

I own a 12 gauge shockwave. I own other short barrel and AOW scattergun smoothbores, and despite the mythology about broken fingers and recoil, they're very easy to manage. Anticlimactic, actually.

I bought one about 2 months ago. Thus far the only shells that I've put through it is Federal's Field and Range 2-3/4" 1 OZ shot. It was very manageable with those "lighter" shells. For the price and novelty of it, I'm pleased.

Plus a trigger guard crossbolt safety that's not as convenient when using that style of grip as the Mossberg tang safety.

Agreed. That’s one of the main reasons I went with the 590A1 over the 870. Mossberg wins in this new category.

Yeah, our law is written in a dumb way. There are a couple groups working with the legislature to get it cleaned up.

They've gotten a lot done in recent years, so I wouldn't be surprised to see this getting fixed eventually.
