Does anyone have one of these, or had one? Do they have chrome lined bores and bolt carriers? How much maintenance is required if corrosive ammo is used? Thank you.

I don't know the answers to your questions but wanted to pass along this bit of info which you may find interesting should you get an AR chambered in 5.45x39. According to some posts at the akfiles and also from a large volume ammo seller (SGammo.com), if you use Russian made Golden Tiger 5.45 ammo in an AR, you may experience misfires due to the lighter hammer strike. This is not supposed to be the case with the AK74 and I can attest to the fact that this is true in my experience. One thing I do like about the Golden Tiger ammo is that the lacquered (steel) cases have a sealant on both the bullets and primers. Hope this helps.

According to the Spec Sheet that I read when I considered getting one stated: Caliber: 5.45 x 39 mm Capacity: 30 Rounds Action: Semi-Auto Barrel Length: 16” Barrel Twist: 1 in 8” Front Sight: M4 Post Overall Length: 35” Extended ,32” Collapsed Stock: 6-Position Collapsible Weight: 6.5 lbs. Barrel Material: 4140 Steel Receiver Material: 7075 T6 Aluminum Finish: Hard Coat Black Anodized Chromed Comp: Barrel Bore, Gas Key Bolt Carrier, Chamber In the past I never had a problem with corrosive ammo and I am not that meticulous on cleaning my weapons. After shooting I would wipe them down along with cleaning the barrels and they were good to go.

I dragged mine out to look for you. It’s been parked since the low cost ammo dried up. In any case mine has a chromed barrel only. No idea if there were different versions. I’ve had this a long time. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Well, gosh, that's kind of an odd duck for a budget AR. I didn't know they existed. ____________________________________________________ "I am your retribution." - Donald Trump, speech at CPAC, March 4, 2023

I appreciate the info. The good folks at the factory knew nothing about it. The gun I was offered is unfired, there is an open can of 1,080 rounds, and the guy wants $1,200.00 for it all. The corrosive ammo doesn’t appear to bring more than .20¢ a round.

What's the designation on the can ?? Also people always think it's a lack of spring power that causes "light prime strikes". In reality it's the length of protrusion from the firing pin that is the issue !

I have been wanting one and if the money situation would be better I would have already gotten one. Every since I first read about the 5.45x39 in an article from Soldier of Fortune regarding the Spetsnaz in AFG many many many moons ago I was hooked. (Most of it probably misguided but hey) With that being said I still think 1200 is a bit high even though the rifle is not well known and is kind of a rarity.

Smith sold off a ton of uppers long ago when ammo was cheap, I recall sales on the complete rifles were slow, and the uppers were on the major parts sites, but just a bit high $$ wise, thought of getting one for the M16 and stacking ammo deep, but at the time I was competing in Service Rifle and had a big pile of 223 and lots and lot of brass (I reloaded) so did not see the point, https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/

Since the supply of dirt cheap surplus 5.45 ammo was cut off years ago, I don't see the point in buying one of these. It only makes sense if you were one of the folks who bought a ton of the cheap surplus and now have it stacked deep. Otherwise, you can get .223/5.56 for the same price or cheaper than new production commercial 5.45 ammo.

I'm with RogueJSK on this one. I owned one because I got a pallet of surplus for dirt cheap and the ammo savings paid for the gun to shoot it and substantial savings after that. In your case the ammo is worth $300 or so, the lower (its a std ar), maybe $200. So at $1200 you are into an oddball upper of middling quality for $700. That makes no sense given the situation on this ammo at this point in time. If it came with 10K rounds at a bargain price OK go for it. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”
