I'm sure that the Beretta custom shop can turn out a fantastic firearm, equal or superior to a Wilson or an LTT. And the price will be in par with the Wilson or LTT, too...maybe greater.

I've never had a chance to shot an MP5, but I've heard they're incredibly smooth. But they're also roller-delayed, not straight blowback. And H&K wants $4500 for an SP5. Even the clones are $1500-1800. The MPX is up there around $1300-1500, too. JP makes an very interesting roller-delayed 9m AR, but it's $5k.

I put my CMMG gun together for $700, which is on par with the pricing of a CX4, PC Carbine, Sub 2000, Henry Homesteader, etc. I wouldn't call it a "race gun"...I was just looking to put together the smoothest 9mm carbine that I could for the money, and getting away from straight blowback was the way to do that. I'm sure there are much better options out there, but I haven't found one in that budget range yet. I wish a few more companies would find a way to do it.

I own about ten different 9mm PCC carbines. The Beretta CX4 storm is next to my bed, for good reason. It just works, and I trust it, and I know where the bullets will land.

What’s interesting about this thread is not that the Cx4 Storm isn’t a good weapon. Rather, it’s almost like Chevrolet vs. Ford, BMW vs. Mercedes, Jeep vs. Bronco. IOW, there are a lot of great options out there. Some are more high tech than others but there are a lot of really dependable PCC options.

One thing not mentioned but important is that you can easily find Beretta and CZ magazines at a fraction of the cost you would pay for HK’s SP5 of SIG’s MPX magazines. CMMG magazines aren’t as much as SIG or HK but they are still more than double the costs of Beretta 92 and CZ Scorpion magazines. Of course that leads to B&T and the new Henry PCC that can use either SIG or GLOCK magazines but then we have really digressed.

Long story short, buy the Cx4 and enjoy. If you don’t you can always sell it. But don’t forget, with the Cx4 you can also carry a Beretta 92 or Px4 Storm and use the same magazines which is something you can’t do with the CZ, the HK or the MPX.

Yea but you can easily get other better PCC style guns that use cheaper and common magazines. Like the glock or sig 320 ones or the CZ. That said my storm has been 100% reliable.
The benefit of the other options is that the aftermarket has swarmed them with upgrades/fixes/improvements. Especially if you pick the CZ or an AR 9 of some kind.
All FWIW.

Nice setup. What barrel is that?

I have a 9mm, but it has been in my safe for about 4 years and I have barely shot it. I need to break that baby out

It’s a kinetic-tech barrel shroud, didn’t care for the look of that thin barrel extending out of the stock.

I do like how you get a 16” rifle length in such a small package.

I don’t have the Beretta but keep in mind that the Scorpion is also blowback and as such also has a fairly heavy bolt carrier … I hadn’t noticed the recoil being a problem until I got a binary trigger for it, it just requires more focus to stay on target, but the binary trigger is much better than the original and of course adds a new dimension of fun.

that looks good! Looks like a low mount red dot will work. Does it 1/3 co witness I. That setup?

Absolute co-witness on this one so I keep the sights folded away.

What kind of malfunctions are you getting with the CMMG? I have one and it's been absoluely stellar, except for an issue with a broken ejector pin and spring after about 1000 rounds (quick fix and I added the bolt weight kit to smooth things out a bit and hopefully help with ejector longevity). Did you use an upper receiver with an enlarged ejection port? I've read that can be a factor as well...I built mine on an Aero XL upper.

The upper is built on a standard AR upper receiver. CMMG RDB bolt/carrier and 8" barrel. Lower is a PSA carbine with adjustable stock, Geisselle trigger. Which works 100% with both my 5.56mm uppers, suppressed or not. I have tried the CMMG bolt carrier weights, and also an adjustable Kak buffer to try and get it to run consistently. I get frequent (at best 3 failures per magazine) failures of various kinds. Primarily failures to fully eject, with empty case going back into the chamber or stovepiping in some form. Suppressed and unsuppressed. All bullet weights. Very inconsistent. While I shoot primarily my reloads, and have used both 147 and 124 grain bullets in those, I have used factory 124 and 115 grain bullets as well, with similar problems. I have 3 CMMG 9mm magazine conversions that I'm using, and have marked them to see if it is a specific magazine, but all three fail with what seems to be an equal rate. Lastly, I have found 5 cases that appear to be fired out of battery, with a circumferential bulge around the base of the case.

I would absolutely love to have this work consistently as a suppressed 9mm PCC, but despite all the trial and error, I just can't get it to run consistently.

Based on that, I'd say check your ejector tension and possibly swap out the upper for one with an enlarged port. Mine has never malfunctioned except for the time it broke the ejector retaining pin.

The potential OOB or early opening is concerning, though, and would have nothing to do with the ejector or ejection port. When my old PSA blowback gun fired OOB, the case exploded and I got peppered with shrapnel. It didn't damage the gun, or me, but it's not something I'd like to repeat.

FWIW I shoot primarily coated 135gr reloads through mine, but I've shot a good amount of 124 gr factory ammo as well with no issues.

I would have suggested that you look at the Striborg, which is what I've been considering, but at the price you can get the CX4 I think you've made the right choice. I currently have a cheapo PCC (Foxtrot Mike) that's a ton of fun to shoot. And honestly, anyone that can't handle the recoil of a 9mm carbine really needs to start eating their vegetables.
