What is the point of making it here (US) with the already factory installed 7+1 tube but pricing it much higher than the imported version with the neutered tube? What am I missing?

How much would it cost to add all of the other 922r stuff besides the tube? Besides, it’s Benelli. They probably saw how Beretta jacked up the prices on their 1301s, and had to stay on top.

Converting the neutered ones is expensive. That was one reason I ended up with the 1301 Tactical. The other was that the M4 is a bit dated in operation. It’s a tough beast but I find the overall operation of the Beretta much simpler and modern. Now if you dropped me into a swamp with a shotgun I might reconsider but otherwise my 1301 makes me very happy. (It cost me a small fortune even with the 1301 once I put the stuff I wanted in it. Aridus took a lot of my $$$)

How much it costs sort off depends on the quality (or supposed quality) of the parts you buy. I guess they figure there's people who will buy one that wouldn't "convert" one themselves, probably true.

I love Benelli's but the M4's an over priced pig.

I'll take the Beretta 1301 all day long, and that's coming from a longtime Benelli owner. I bought my first Benelli, a Super 90 M1 in 1989, bought another one five years later and bought a 121 M1 in 2001.

My well-used Super 90 is ultra-reliable but in terms of accessorizing it, it belongs to a past era.

Poofed 1988, with the early one piece magazine tube which is staked in place, which means that changing the magazine spring is a gunsmithing job, which means it could not be used for home defense because leaving it loaded would ultimately result in inadequate feed reliability. But, loading it fresh for trouble, you're golden.

Ghost-loaded, it holds nine shells, two of which (on the lifter and in the chamber) can be 3" shells.

I Love my 'appropriately accessorized' Benelli M4

A shotgun intended for shooting people needs at least a light. It's possible to mount a light on a Super 90 but aside from Surefire's forend light (which I don't know is even in production for the Super 90 and if modern LED lamp modules are available for it), you have to clamp the mount onto the magazine tube, and I don't like that idea.

Benelli found out about 922r a little late.

Hopefully this marks the end of Benelli being conservative with their offerings in the USA.

The SuperNova breacher could be competitor to the Shockwaves immediately.

I will concede that the price to make one 922r compliant was very expensive and the more expensive US one would have been a bargain. I love my M4, but have to agree the 1301 is where I’d go doing it all over again.

I didn't love my M4, so I did the smart thing I always do.. threw money at it hoping I would like it after. And continued to throw money at it. Having done that several times now and probably added $1k-$1.5 to the price tag.. I still don't love it, but now can never sell it.

I got my first Benelli, a M3, in 1991, and the second, a M1 two years later. I had a M1014 when it first came out, but sold it. Managed to pick up a LE model M4 a few years ago, so I didn’t have to worry about 922r with that one. Still prefer my Beretta 1301, though.

I was pleasantly surprised the M4 gas recoil system is so effective. The M2 Tactical I had in the past kicked like a proverbial mule but this M4 is awesome.I have just the factory version with the standard tube.

For a spell, I had one of my M2's and my M4 similarly appointed, some length barrel/tube, same light setup and gewgaws. IIRC the M4 was close to 2lbs heavier? That alone will suck up a lot of recoil.

On the subject of recoil, which one has more? The Benelli M4 or the Beretta 1301, for those experienced with both?

They’re both pretty close, the M4 weighs a bit more and the 1301 has the recoil spring forward the bolt which pushes a good amount of weight up front. The biggest difference IMO is my finger can outrun the M4 and it has never outrun a 1301. Both shotguns are extremely fast. I have an older Remington 11/87 Police that is substantially more punishing than the other two.

Having a M4, 1301 and A300 Ultima patrol, I would take the 1301 under most circumstances. I think it would be hard pressed to keep up with the M4 if durability was the main consideration.

On a side note, I know someone who just finished evaluating a couple of 1301 Mod 2 shotguns. The only complaint was both would have issues if they were not cleaned every 400-500 rounds or so shooting federal flight control buckshot. They were kept well lubed during all the testing. This was only a sample of 2 but it was interesting that both has the same issues after several hundred rounds.
