I realized today that I never posted a picture of the completed build. This started here with my thread back in 2022: https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...540061094#8540061094 Here's what went into the build: -- CMMG Mk3 stripped lower DPMS Gen 1 High Profile -- CMMG Gunbuilder lower parts kit Mk3 -- Hiperfire EDT Designated Marksman Trigger (4.5lb spring) -- Aero Precision M5 18" CMV Ballistic Advantage barrelled upper w/ Atlas R-One handguard -- Aero Precision M5 .308 Carbine Buffer Kit -- PSA P10 .308 Nitride Bolt Carrier Group -- Strike Industries AR-10 Charging Handle -- Votex Strike Eagle 1-8x24 Gen2 w/AR-BDC3 reticle & 30mm cantilever mount -- Magpul ACS Carbine stock -- Magpul M4 MOE K2 Grip -- Magpul M3 10 and 30 round PMAGs -- LANTAC Dragon Muzzle brake (Karma from Oat_Action_Man ... thanks Patrick!) -- Harris M-Loc bipod/sling adapter -- Harris Model H 13.5-23” bipod Only hiccup we had was that the takedown pin hole in the Aero upper was tad undersized. How's it shoot? How did Aero deal with the oversize pin hole? Your mount is backwards.

Nice bald1, congrats. What do you have into it. less optic and mount? For someone interested in a AR10 on a budget check out PSA. You can pick one up at some incredible deals right now. Even one with a Gieselle trigger. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Yep. Although it's been awhile since I've used a Harris bipod, I suspect it's on backwards, too.

TOUGH CROWD! First the takedown pin hole required some minor polishing to reem it to the correct size. Aero wasn't contacted as this issue is said to be somewhat common for such builds with differing manufacturers of uppers and lowers. Second, the Vortex mount was originally much further back and mounted this way to provide extra clearance for my hand to grab the small latch wings on the charging handle. (As an aside in hindsight one with a much larger latch like the Vitor (BCM) AR10 / SR25 Mod3 would have been a better choice.) The mount was slid forward for my son who is a half foot taller with a much longer LOP and differing eye relief preferences. The scope is very light and quite secure / functional as is. Third, the Harris bipod is mounted so that it folds under the handguard rather than sticking way out in front of the muzzle when folded. Wanted the bipod height to allow the use of a 30x PMAG. Also have on hand the Harris Model L (9-13") that could also be used. The rifle is heavy and with the Lantac brake shoots very soft with zilch movement so the bipod function hasn't been as issue as mounted (no collapse on recoil). Pre-loading the bipod is pulling the stock backwards into the shoulder. Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! The scope mount will be equally strong & stable, whether installed correctly or backwards. I don’t believe this mount has a canted base, therefore the backwards mount doesn’t decrease the scope’s ability to dial for extended target distances. Most of my scope mounts have canted bases, and thus I mount them correctly forwards. Cantilever mounts were designed to help folks who shoot “nose to charging handle”, as is fairly common with iron sights. Nose to charging handle with an optic requires that the rear end of the optic be located maybe an inch forward of the charging handle – or roughly where the grooves start in the rail of your receiver. The rear of your scope appears to be directly above charging handle, or possibly a little aft of the CH. I locate the scopes on my ARs so that the rear of the scope is directly over the charging handle. Nose to charging handle is too far forward for me. IMO, a larger CH latch is pretty much mandatory on an AR with a scope, regardless of how the optic is mounted.

I have 10, 20, and 25-round PMAGs for my AR10s. I was not aware that PMAG makes 30-round AR10 mags, and I don’t find them on Magpul’s site. I do recall that Promag makes 30-round AR10 mags, but I won’t buy Promag items. I use Atlas bipods – much shorter versions than your tall Harris – and I haven’t had issues with mag clearance, in different types of terrain. The best recoil management with rifle-mounted almost always occurs by forward-weighting (pre-loading) the bipod. Any bipod, any brand. Properly done, this allows the shooter to reduce rifle movement during the recoil cycle. Which keeps the sights on target the entire time. Combined with strong shooting fundamentals, this allows the shooter to see bullets actually impacting targets. And if shooter has really strong fundamentals, he might even be able to see his own bullet trace. There are instances where backward pressure on the bipod produces great control during the recoil cycle and consistently accurate results. For instance, pulling backwards against a ledge, barrier, rock, bench, etc. I have done this in both training and competition. I also demonstrated results in the “10-shot group thread” for both a 223 AR-15 and a bolt action 308. Installing the Harris bipod backwards may work acceptably well for you, but in most shooting positions it will work better when installed with the legs collapsing forward.

You're right. My 308 PMAGs are 10 and 20x, not 10 and 30. I must have been thinking of my 223 when posting. Looking at adding the Strike Industries extended latch that is compatible with my current strike arch charging handle. UPDATE: Ordered Will try mounting the smaller Harris as you suggest and see how it goes. This message has been edited.
