I was looking to getting a decent .223 bolt action rifle and came upon the CZ 527. According to the website it will shoot the 5.56 as well. The website also stated that the rifle has been discontinued. Are all the models discontinued? If so, is there a similar rifle available? I really liked the dimensions of it. Thanks in advance.

Not sure of its production status, but if you can find one, they are fine rifles. I had one in 221 Fireball and it was not only a great looking rifle, it was a great shooter. I have had a couple of their rifles and they are top shelf.

Yeah, I used to have a couple of guns.

CZ debuted a new set of centerfire rifles earlier this year, and from the SHOT stuff I saw online it does look like the 527 is discontinued.

The 527 was always something of a steady seller and there are still several available online, so you ought to be able to get support or parts from CZ if you ever needed them.

FWIW one of the new rifles chambered for the 7.62x39, an Alpha 600, really appears to be nothing more than an updated version of the 527 carbine I've had for a few years. They also offer one with a 24" barrel in .223/5.56, but I can't say whether the aesthetics of it will appeal to you as much as those of the 527 do.

That's unfortunate that they canned this model! While I don't have one, I do have the preceding model called the BRNO FOX in 22 Hornet. Bascially the same rifle. What's really cool about these rifles is they use a mini-Mauser action with controlled feed and claw extraction. Beautiful and classic setup!

Yep, I have a CZ-527 in 7.62x39, compact, lightweight. I have visions of loading up some ammo for deer hunting, closer shots.

Had I known the run up, I would of bought 10 of them. They seem to go over $1100 on gunbroker now.

I always thought the Brownells Colt 4x AR15 scope remake with the mount detached would do nicely on a 527 in .233.

The CZ 527 is a gem. If you don't need something so pretty, the Ruger American Ranch is a cheap workhorse that works great and takes AR mags.

I've several (.223 and 7.62) and they are a very nice gun for what I paid for them. But if they aren't available in .223 the Tikka is certainly a very acceptable alternative based on the ones I also have. There are several models available one of which might be what you are looking for. Alternatively as JonDaddy82 says in .223 I would certainly look hard at the options (there are several) that take AR mags and not a proprietary mag.

Always wanted one of those in left handed but never did. Maybe I'll see if I can find one now that they are discontinued.

I’ve got three of these in various calibers (e.g., .223, 7.62 and 6.5G) and just love them. Handy and smart little rifles.

i agree with the above post that the CZ 600 Alpha or Trail seem to be the closest thing in their lineup now.

I have the CZ 527 Varmint in .17 Hornet. Beautiful, accurate rifle. Well worth picking one up in the caliber you prefer if you can find a good price.

Looks like if I can't find the 527 i want, a CZ 600 may be in my future. I'll have to handle one to see if it fits my bill. The Ruger American Ranch ma6 be a very distant option as well though. Thanks for all the replies!
