Makasi FAL/ AR Hybrid - Screaming Deal
Not sure how many people have heard of the Brigade Makasi but it’s a pretty cool FAL / AR hybrid in 5.56 and it’s currently 20% off of the posted prices on their web site. There’s not much out there on them but I picked one up and liked it more than my JAKL, Carmel, BRN180, Crusader Templar and 556xi. It’s been super reliable with underpowered .223 steel cased ammo. I liked it so much and the current pricing is so good that I sold part of my collection and ordered another 16” Makasi and two of the 10.5” Makasi “MK-15” pistols. Hopefully they work as great as the rifle.

Might eventually find a 1913 brace with a tall interface like the Bren braces. Until then they’ll be cobbled together with spare parts when they get here in a couple of weeks.

The idea of adding a $350 B&T or ACR stock/ adapter to an $1,100 rifle isn’t sitting right but they sure look pretty good.

Weird. Cool. Is the bolt FAL type or AR type?

Seems unlikely that it's FAL type, as I think FN would have made a 5.56 FAL forever ago, if it was viable. They made the FNC instead for a reason.

AR bolt and firing pin, but the carrier is neither.

The carrier is a truncated AR bolt carrier with a modified key that functions as the anvil surface for the piston and the interface with the recoil spring. It’s an interesting design, but I just can’t understand why they wouldn’t simply design it as a true AR18 iteration with a carrier that rides on rails. The cylindrical carrier in a tubular receiver is a poor design choice for a piston that impacts off axis.

The 10.5” Makasi pistols arrived today feeling super light. They’re 6 ounces lighter than a Scar 15P even though the 15P only has a 7.5” barrel.

That bolt reminds me of the Daewoo AR110C

How does it function with real ammo?

The 2 rifles have been darn near flawless with any ammo. One of my 10.5” pistols only likes brass cased 5.56 during break in and one of my 10.5” Makasi pistols needs to go back to the manufacturer for testing / tweaking because it’s not cycling reliably with either. I may take it back out and make sure I try a variety of mags / ammo before sending it back though.

You have to go to the brigade site and catch them when there’s a 25% off deal (it’s 15% off today). The 10.5” Makasi pistols are $1,120 right now (site price X.85= what you pay).
