Love the pieces of history. If only these guns could talk......it would probably be in Japanese Sling is a repro but other than that it's all matching with no import marks. Nice. Now you just need to find a dust cover. And get a reloading press. Has the chrysanthemum been ground off? Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

Japanese rifle are fascinating with many different variations. It's interesting to look at the early production rifles, and how the quality suffered as the war progressed. Early rifles were quite well finished, with chrome bores and bolt faces (corrosive ammo in WW2). Toward the end of the war, machining marks, rough welds, etc. were the norm. Brass is available from PPU (Prvi Partizan). Bullets are .311". Arisaka's can be quite accurate. This is a good stater book that lists the variations that can be encountered: https://www.amazon.com/Japanes...War-II/dp/1880677113

No import marks, that ups the likelihood that the 'Mum is in tact... Is it still present? _________________________ An unarmed man can only flee from evil and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it. - Col Jeff Cooper NRA Life Member Long Live the Super Thirty-Eight

Congratulations -- all the Arisakas are getting hard to find! I've got a couple of Type 99's and one fairly clean 6.5 mm Type 38 rifle. Both The 99's have defaced mums and one doesn't match. Pretty sure the Type 38 is a "vet bring back". The mum is 100% intact, dust cover # matches and it came with a Jap leather sling (not a repro). There are also a few tiny shell fragments embedded in the stock. AIR, around 1995 Collias-Lawing (Charlotte, NC) had it on consignment from the deceased vets widow ------------------------------------------------------------ "I have resolved to fight as long as Marse Robert has a corporal's guard, or until he says give up. I don't remember where I read it, but the U.S. Army did some testing between the Springfield 1903, the German Mauser, and the Japanese Type 99. Their tests showed the Type 99 to have the strongest receiver of the three, which was completely opposite what I would have expected the results to be. Since then I've been meaning to add one to my collection.

I have a Type 38 and a Type 99. Have had them for a number of years and have only shot the 38...one time...and with surplus Jap ammo it key holed into one small tight group. I have no idea how it would perform with some new Norma.
