My boss gave me a M91/30 as a retirement gift. Other than jokes about their length and the fact they have to be loaded carefully, I know nothing about them. This one has matching numbers on the bolt and receiver, has a hammer and sickle stamped on it, and was apparently made in 1943. Can anyone recommend a good place to start learning about the markings? Thanks in advance. _______________________________ The artist formerly known as AllenInWV

https://russian-mosin-nagant.com/russia_m1891-30.html https://russian-mosin-nagant.com/barrel_shanks.html There used to be an even better Mosin-Nagant reference website: 7.62x54r.net But it looks like it's now defunct. You'd have to use archive.org to browse that: https://web.archive.org/web/20...http://7.62x54r.net/

I will karma to you a reproduction sling (OD green) with black dog collars if you want it. My 1943 Izhevsk 91/30 likes 147 grain light ball with bayonet attached. I load Speer .311 150 gr. with IMR 4064. My 1942 Izhevsk M38 likes the 178 grain heavy ball. I load PPU or Sierra 3.11 174 gr. with IMR 4064 powder. Ammo back then was corrosive. Check barrel, then slug it for best accuracy. PC

Thank you! I actually already purchased one (from Amazon of all places but supposed these are of Russian manufacture) but that is very generous of you. I am not sure about shooting it. I'm thinking it'll go under a big pic of the guys I was in a Bradley with during Desert Storm. I am definitely going to SLOWLY take it apart and clean it up. Lotta grease on this thing! But the wood looks like it will be really pretty. I'll try to get some pics up next week. The barrel shank marks seem to indicate it was made in Izhevsk(?) in '43. Has the brass bits, no metal around the butt sling hole and some around the the bottom of the forearm sling hole. I'm in the middle of moving so I haven't really dove into checking it all out. _______________________________ The artist formerly known as AllenInWV

Only Ivan knows. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Yidn, shreibt un fershreibt" "The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation.
