I was able to get the M1 Carbine to the range today to test out a load that I actually loaded about 7 years ago. The load is 14gr IMR 4227 with a 110gr FMJ. The gun and this load did extremely well at 100 yds.
I have not shot open sights in a longgggggg time, but was still able to keep everything in the 9, 10 and X-ring with my 54 y/o eyes. I have to say, this gun provided me with more fun than any of the others I took out today.
My second gun was my Socom 16. I developed a load using 48.3 gr IMR 3031 with a 125gr Speer TNT. Initially I was running a red dot but wanted a little better accuracy so I added a Burris 2.75 fixed power scout scope and zeroed the optic and this load at 100yds. The first group was about 1.5” and low left of the bull. After a quick adjustment, 2 went into the bull and 1 a little low. I’ll take that with this gun.
I then backed up to 50 to see where this load was hitting. I plan to hunt pigs with it in Dec and the longest shot that I have taken has been about 50 yds. I shot 6 rounds and was delighted to see a very tight cluster dead center. There appears to be no drop between 50 and 100.
All in all a great day at the range. I love both of these guns.

Having an M1A is the same thing as having a 1911. Do I want it to be my primary? Hell no! But it always put a smile your face.
