Ya OEM mags are kinda expensive, the stock trigger sucks and the rifle has a high sticker price. But after shooting a Scar 17 knew I had to have it one ! Liked it so much I also got it's little brother.

LRB M14 tanker. Forged M14 receiver, move the front sight back to the gas lock (you don't lose much sight radius anyway due to the shorter barrel), and then you can use any flash hider, brake, or suppressor on the front. If you plan to scope it, have it built on their M25 receiver. Uses available CMI M14/M1A magazines.

I hear this complaint leveled against the SCAR quite a bit. From my experience, I've found them to be perfectly acceptable. Of my four SCARs, none of them have nearly as bad a trigger as my Colt 6920s. It's funny, nobody ever seems to complain about the factory trigger on a Colt.

Just ordered a batch of SCAR-17 magazines. Now, I have to find a place that has the damn rifle in stock! -ShneaSIG Oh, by the way, which one's "Pink?"

Here's a few options that show "In Stock": https://www.midwestgunworks.com/page/mgwi/prod/98561 http://www.gandrtactical.com/F...-20rd-Mag_p_355.html https://coppercustom.com/firea...fn-scar-17s-scar-17s Also, if you qualify for FN's LE/Mil program, you can get a pretty good discount: https://fnamerica.com/promotions/lemd/ Looks like they have an NRA Instructor's program as well.

I was speaking more in terms of local shops (I'm reluctant to buy online because I don't have a reliable ffl to work with). However, Midwest Gun Works is actually within 30 minutes of me. -ShneaSIG Oh, by the way, which one's "Pink?"

Walker, you beat me to it, although I don't think the .308 Tavor is out yet. I do own the Tavor in .223 and it is a fantastic gun, although the stock trigger sucks. If you are looking for reliability, it's tough to beat an FAL. I've put a couple of thousands rounds through mine and never had a misfire. It will not be a tack driver though, and it is a bit of a pain to mount a scope on. For AR10's - I own a POF which I like a lot, but it is heavy. It has been 100% reliable and is pretty damn accurate. Might also look at LaRue, who I believe still have a great deal going on their Ultimate Upper. You could even get it in 6.5cm, which would be pretty interesting. Don't have any experience with the SCAR but they are very pricey aren't they?

Make sure you get one in FDE. Besides being more accurate and tacti-cooler than the black version, it gives you the opportunity to brag about owning a rifle in five shades of gold. "The Truth, when first uttered, is always considered heresy."

That would be cool, but I'm allergic to FDE finishes. -ShneaSIG Oh, by the way, which one's "Pink?"

Agree. My younger son and I both went the M1A route. No regrets. Thanks, Sap

Congrats in advance on a great choice! You'll love it. I had a bunch of .308 PMags already so it was cheaper for me to get an aftermarket lower than a bunch of new FN mags.

Sounds like you've made a great choice. I was going to recommend the Scar or LMT. I love my scar. ----------------------------------------- Roll Tide! Glock Certified Armorer NRA Certified Firearms Instructor

Bonus Round! Help me pick an optic. Again, this weapon will be set up for use between 0 and 200 yards, so I'm inclined to go Aimpoint over a 8x scope. Probably the top of the heap right now is an Aimpoint with a magnifier. Thoughts? Recommendations? -ShneaSIG Oh, by the way, which one's "Pink?"

I LOVE my ELCAN SpecterDR 1.5-6x. It’s bulletproof as the optics are static (the housing is what moves when adjusting sights). Downsides - heavy beast and costs as much as the rifle.

I personally like a little magnification on my optics. For shooting out to 200 yards I think 4x or 6x is the sweet spot. If weight and cost are not big factors and you want an adjustable scope the Vortex Razor 1-6x is a fantastic scope. If you are trying to save some money there is nothing wrong with SWFA 1-4X, although it won't have the clarity or brightness of the Vortex. Finally, can't go wrong with a nice ACOG.

OP - First off, congrats on your decision to get a SCAR17...you're gonna love it. Secondly, from 0 to 200 yards, I agree with your decision on a red dot. Except for distance bench shooting, a red dot should serve you well. I went with a 1-6 on one of mine and a 3.5-15 on the other one. I am mostly a bench shooter so this is what drove my decision plus I don't like messing around with a magnifier, but that's just me. As far as red dots, I like the MRO because of the field of view and weight. Lastly, someone mentioned that the FDE was more accurate than the black. I have found that the opposite is true, especially at distance. [/IMG]

Knowing how very rear heavy the 5.56 Tavor SAR is, I’m wondering how this is going to handle.

Aimpoint is good, but have you priced the Steiner 1-4 P4Xi recently? I just picked one up on sale for what has historically been the non-sale asking price of an Aimpoint PRO, and sportoptics tends to have them for a hair over $475.
