Apparently an early 551-2 LB with round toe stock with flat metal inside, green gas block and matching s/n jenny mount. It's an LB or 17" barrel vs. the normal 14.3" It came with a Vega Sport Swiss 4x that weighs less than the mount it’s on. I have some STANAG rings on the way for my CETME LV...I’ll have to see it they work with the mount or find a 1913 version (probably A.R.M.S.). ![]() ![]() comparing the very early round toe stock vs. later Weidmann stock: ![]() 551-2 SP vs. West Coast Armory semi-auto four position stock: ![]() ![]() ![]() green gas block: ![]() serial matching jenny mount and a super lightweight optic from a marque I'm unfamiliar with: ![]() The FNH FNC Sporter was just repainted in green to match the proper colors of a Swedish AK5. Two absolutely magnificent rifles! You have great taste! I bet there aren’t many 551-2 SPs out there. That AK5 is a work of art too.

Wait, what's the barrel length of your 551? Looks to me like it's just a 551-2 16" barrel not an LB barrel which is just under 18". Please correct me if I'm wrong

measures 17" which is proper for an LB of that period

So why isn't it marked LB?

I'm about 99.9% sure you have yourself a 551-2 SP with a 16" inch barrel. The flash hiders aren't included in the overall barrel length. I was under the impression the "LB" was more of a recent designation, not 80's or early 90's as your rifle appears. Even so, if it was LB it should read 551-2 LB not SP. I'm hoping JoshNC chimes in as I may be completely wrong.

mishaco just sold a similar vintage rifle with identical barrel (GB 847570341 - he lists it as 16.1"). SIG/SAN may not measure the flash hider but BATFE does which is why I said 17" (that's what it measures from the breach to the end of the flash hider.)

So you bought the rifle from him? It's obviously the same serial number... His description lists it as a 551-2 SP with a 16" barrel. I was confused for a second but I'm good now. Beautiful rifle, enjoy!

No, I did not. I said a similar one....same specs and same 551-2 SP nomenclature, but green. My s/n is not far off from that one.

Ah, you're right. The 60301, 60031 threw me off. Very nice 551-SP you've got your hands on either way.

That's a real nice 551. Can you tell me how that "jenny mount" is attached to the 551.

Two exquisite rifles! ![]() I was aware that a few SIG 551-2 SP 16" variants made it into the U.S. before the import ban, however I wasn't aware that any were Long Barrel LB variants. I was aware of the STANAG mount, but this is the first I've heard it referred to as a "Jenny" mount. I've seen the scope name referenced before, but don't know anything about that brand. Any idea which contractor produced the early pre-Weidmann stock?
There are a couple different 55X mounting systems but, other than the Quad Rail set-ups, most rely on the same basic concept and the rail or mount essentially braces against a wedge shaped protrusion on top of the receiver (Swiss Cross) and jacks into the rear diopter sight housing. Although I've read a few complaints about rails working loose under recoil it's a slick system and generally works well.

"Jenny" is not a brand. It's the name of the designer. His full name is Dr.Harald Jenny, he is a consultant, not a technician. His mount was adopted by the Swiss Armed Force. Manufacturer was most likely SIG-Neuhausen or one of their subcontractors.

Good Morning and Merry Christmas Daniel! Have you seen the Manurhin version of this mount? I have a friend in Chile who may have a few. I worked with him back in '93 when I worked for the Carabineros de Chile in Santiago. I'm trying to see if I can get one to try out. Unlike the ones I have seen on the inter-web, the Chilean ones are finished in SIG grey and have the scope riser blocks. I'll let you know if I ever see one. This message has been edited. Technically the LB models have a grenade launching boss/retaining ring and larger diameter flash hider for launching rifle grenades. I’ve always referred to the 16” barreled 551s as 16” OAL barrel 551, not LB. The 16” OAL barrel has a smaller diameter and shorter flash hider than the StG/PE90, 551 LB, 551 SB, and 552/553 LB. I’ve had two 551-1 LB rifles from CCF imported kits/receivers and 3 or 4 of the upper receivers. None of the LBs were marked LB. They were marked “SG 551-1 SP”. I have a PD trade in 551-2 with 16” OAL barrel like PGT’s. It’s marked identically. The 16” OAL 551s were imported pre-89 and post-89 (for PDs). The 551 LBs were all imported by Larry Gaglio/CCF as “repair/replacement” receivers and complete parts kits with barrels. There may have been a few complete LBs imported for PDs, but I’m not aware of them. --------------------------------------------- "AND YEA THOUGH THE HINDUS SPEAK OF KARMA, I IMPLORE YOU...GIVE HER A BREAK, LORD". - Clark W.
