Stock for Remington 700
I'm building a 308 with a Shilen Sendero contour barrel, mainly for target, but not too heavy to be taken afield. Looking at Bell & Carlson and H-S Precision stocks, the H-S is about a hundred more expensive, I assume worth it?

I don't care about ability to drop cartridges out of the magazine, so I assume I should go with ADL configuration? Any reason to go with BDL even if you don't care about dropping cartridges?

You will be well served with both. Manners has a nice line too. I have a H-S Precision on my .308 M700 and love it. Worth the extra pennies...

The Remington factory BDL stocks might have had a different grip cap or something like that, but functionally, the hinged floorplate was the only difference. IMHO though, it's a handy feature to have.

Lot's of good stocks/chassis out there.
MDT, Foundation, Worx, Magpul, just to name a few.
I have been building with MDT lately > quite nice.

I'd offer Hogue for consideration, too.

I have a Manners T4S. It's nice; really nice. But it's stupid expensive (I think I paid $900) and the wait time is even worse (mine took 11 months). And unless you get the mini chassis you are going to have to get it bedded. I didn't, and ended up paying my gunsmith to do mine while he was building the rest of my rifle, and ended up spending the $300 I thought I was saving on the front end on his services.

I actually had a B&C stock for a past build and ended up returning it because it wouldn't fit my magazine adapter. Funny part: I ended up putting a Bob Sled in that gun so I can single feed because I load so long.

I would say there's many options out there but would suggest passing on Magpul for 308. Imo the light weight is messy when it comes to recoil management. The stocks are just too light.

Take a look at Grayboe, if you like Manners & McMillan style stocks.

Three times I have fit a BDL floor plate onto an ADL stock. It's not that hard. I even did it on a 721. I like the bottom to open

I ended up getting an HS Precision walking varmint type stock. It took almost two months to get it. It came about two days after the barreled action returned after barrel install from a gunsmith in Texas. He completed the work the day he got it and it was on FedEx truck back to me the same day.

Except for slight stock relief for trigger assembly, everything went together without incident. Barrel channel fit was near perfect and even though I'm yet to test fire, I'm quite pleased. May send my bolt to LRI for fluting. Scope is mounted, ammo is loaded, I'm ready for test fire.
