I've been fawning over this thing for months and also debating between the 16" trapper and the 24" version. I'm happy with this. I got it from guns.com, so I didn't get to see a picture of this specific one before I pulled the trigger. I am NOT disappointed. The SN is <100. The case hardened finish can vary wildly between units; this one is fantastic. The lockup of the takedown mechanism has zero play in it.
I love the balance. The feed and ejection are super smooth. It is really fun with light .44Mag loads and HURTS like hell with some water-bottle-busting loads. The hot loads were clocked at 2040fps with a 200gr JHP using 28.0gr of H110. That's approaching max load according to Hodgdon, so I won't go any higher than that; zero signs of overpressure on the case, too.
I've ordered a custom leather stock cover that I'll add some padding to internally. Overall, very happy with it!
I'm still going to order a Marble Arms fold up peep sight and one of their folding rear sights.
Upkeep question: Should I apply boiled linseed oil to the wood? Would there be any downside to doing that? I keep it stored in siliconed gun sock, but was wanting to keep the wood purty.

Really nice.
Not all oil finishes are the same. Some do not play nice together. Boiled linseed oil is like adding another coat of finish and can take a long time to dry. Some factory finishes have added components to make them harder and wear better. I would not use it unless the factory says OK.

Boiled linseed oil for the stock
I wouldn’t store it in a case even if you silicone it. Leaving it out in your house (if it’s air conditioned) will keep the humidity below what it would take to rust.

The RH here was 8% yesterday. It's never been an issue. I mainly wanted the sock so it doesn't rub against other weapons in the safe. I still have a golden rod in the safe, regardless.This message has been edited. Last edited by: flesheatingvirus,

Solid choice that balances function with art. The only change I made to mine was a skinner sight. I can't warm up to the buckhorns. I have both 44 and 357. Rifle barrel length makes both cartridge a heavy hitter.

Rear sight swapped out with the folding Marble Arms #95. I definitely like it more than the original buckhorn. The tang site is still on back order.
