I just picked up my 3rd AR, a Black Rain Ordnance Fallout 15. Got a pretty good deal on it with sale price and 10% off. My others are a Ruger MPR and a BRO Fallout 10 that was the subject of a thread here a couple of years ago. However I am not really well versed in them and have one persistent issue when cleaning my ARs, that being HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU REINSTALL THAT F%#$@&G FIRING PIN RETAINING PIN?? I fight with that damn thing every stinking time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

TIA.

Mine gives me a bit of trouble sometimes.
I usually work the FP front/back a bit & maybe a slight twist on the retaining pin. Usually does the trick.

Or, could be that one of the 'legs' of the pin is skewed enough to interfere with the FP?

That usually works for me as well. If, however, one wants to avoid the problem altogether, this type of pin eliminates the problem (in my experience of course).

And because it was the original style consecrated and blessed by Stoner himself (so we are told) it is by definition better than the cheap-out later design. The one problem, however, that I found when using the solid style was that they don’t stay in the bolt carrier very well and as soon as the BCG is removed from the receiver it’s easy for them to fall out and get lost—not so great for field maintenance. So I went back to using the cotter pin type and fiddling with them as necessary.

The FPRP is a really cheap item. When one starts to give me issues, I toss it and replace it with new.

Most manufacturers claim that it is made of special material, carved out of a meteor on a mountain top. I go to Fastenal and buy them for $10 per 100. I’ve never had an issue and still have 90-95 in the box.

You can also try beveling the outside edges of the kotter pin legs to remove any burrs.

A dab of grease on the pin prior to insertion is my go to for finicky pins.
