Never heard of Pioneer Arms, so can't comment on quality. But I'll say that AKs with underfolding stocks look cool, but that's about the only positive. They aren't comfortable to shoot, and don't allow for any semblance of a decent cheek weld so accuracy will suffer. And once you buy one and discover you hate the underfolder, you can't swap it out for any other type of AK stock, since underfolder AKs use a different receiver that can't accommodate standard AK stocks or aftermarket AK stock replacements. If you want the compactness of a folding stock AK, get one with a side-folding full stock, not an underfolder or a wire stock. Something more like the one shown below if you want a factory folding stock, or you can retrofit a standard fixed stock AK with an aftermarket side folding stock like a Magpul Zhukov. I can only chime in to say I have a Magpul Zhukov on a Scorpion and the stock is incredibly solid and well-built. I wouldn't overlook a standard AK with one of these stocks. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

Yep. I've owned both a Bulgarian side folder like shown above, as well as a fixed stock AK that I installed a Zhukov on. Either one is nice and solid, with good cheek weld, while still allowing you to fold it down when needed. The Zhukov is a bit thicker/heavier, and it isn't "factory" nor does it have the classic AK lines, but it does also allow for LOP adjustment and QD swivels.

NOT compromised! |
Listen to Rogue. After the first 30 rounds you will hate your underfolder.

Thought I wanted an Underfolder once. Got one, first shot I was downright offended. Basically determined I'd have to float my head over it, and that sucked. Sold it. I have all sidefolders now and they are orders of magnitude better. If you like the look or whatever have at it, just know it's probably going to be uncomfortable to shoot to say the least. I'd probably get a PSA AK over Pioneer Arms. I want to say PA has improved a lot, but I don't know that for sure.

I agree with the above posters that you will probably not like the underfolder after shooting a few rounds, but, if you are set on trying one, there are adapters to convert to M4 style stocks should you choose to do so later. Definitive Arms makes one and there are others. Can't help with Pioneer Arms as I know nothing about them. ____________ Pace

Get Off My Lawn |
The only time I shot a rifle with an underfolder was a Ruger 10/22 decades ago and it was not a very efficient stock at all. Recently, I bought a Zastava ZPAP and actually looked their at underfolder stock on Black Friday (20% off), but came to my senses after a minute and passed on it. I have a couple of pistols with SB Tactical collasping braces (SP5 and 556xi) and like the underfolder, looks cool but subpar compared to a real butt stock. I’d avoid the pioneer arms. I’d get a zastava. But if you want a more traditional AK then psa isn’t a bad way to go at all, but I’ve been very impressed with my zastava, mine is every bit as accurate as my AR, isn’t over gassed like most AK’s and it’s just a quality focused rifle.

I have a Palmetto 103S AK variant w/ the FN marked barrel. Side folder w/ a solid stock. It is very stable and pretty accurate for an AK. Reliable too. I noticed with the underfolders that being thin and metal they eat your cheek while firing. Wrap it w/ paracord as it helps some.

I’ll second the Zastava comment, I really like mine. It’s getting a few Christmas surprises this year. David W. Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud. -Sophocles
