So a local store had stainless takedown 10/22 for $315. Seemed like a good price, so I bought one. The cheap Tupperware stock needs to go. Any takedown owners have a suggestion... I'm currently leaning towards the hogue thumb hole variant. I saw Arc's old thread when I searched, but was wondering if opinions have changed any in 6 years. A Perpetual Disappointment...

Mine is currently in a Magpul. It's minimalist and very light, but worlds better than the factory. I've also used the Hogue traditional style stock, and it feels very sturdy but is obviously heavier.

I sold my takedown a while back (a stupid move), but I'd be tempted to go with this Hogue if I still had it. God bless America.

The Hogue is a more traditional hunting rifle style. Magpul makes two stocks, the Backpacker and the Hunter. I have the Hunter; it has the advantage of being able to add comb height for a better cheek weld; but the Hunter is bulkier than the Backpacker. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

I’ve got a stainless takedown ($315 is an excellent price, I think mine was more like $399, but they hadn’t been out all that long. I’ve also got the stainless Challenger take-down and it’s the one I always grab first. I put a stainless folding stock on the 16”, I’m not sure who made it or if it’s still in production, but the Challenger I put a Copper Custom adapter on the factory stock so I could add a brace and eventually a actual stock. If you really want something you'll find a way ... ... if you don't you'll find an excuse. I'm really not a "kid" anymore ... but I haven't grown up yet either

Get the magpul backpacker, I absolutely love it, you can also get the magpul optic mount that attaches to the barrel and it’s perfect for a red dot

Since this is in the rifle section I'm going to assume it's the rifle version. I have 4 Rifle/carbine 1022s all wearing Boyds stocks, another will be put together in the next few days after Fedex delivers another Boyds SS Evolution stock today. Boyds website lists stocks for the Takedown and again I'll assume they are just using photos of their regular 1022 stocks since they don't offer but a few different models compared to the options for a carbine. They do offer some Laminated thumbhole stocks in a couple models. I have found them to be very good quality Plus offer you different color options to make your gun your own. At one time all my 1022s had laminate stocks as my Charger model Like above was one of the first and came with the Laminate stock, But like Kimberkids, I eventually wanted the new Polymer stock so I could put a brace on it. Everyones tastes are different but I suggest you take a look at Boyds gunstocks maybe you will like one of their offerings.

Appreciate all the replies. Yes, it is a carbine although I do also have one of the laminate stocked chargers. I have a magpul hunter stock on a target barrel 10/22 and have had a couple of boyds stocks on both 10/22 and savage MKII builds. All work quite well, but aren't quite what i want here. I also have a hogue takeoff stock from the target barrel 10/22 wearing the magpul stock. I really liked it, except for the fact it's neon pink. But I suppose that's why I got the gun for <$200. It'll probably be a toss up between the magpul backpacker and the hogue and whichever I find the best sale on. A Perpetual Disappointment...
