Saw a couple posts on social media and finally the official one from FN. Sad to see it go but I can understand. Expensive rifle with a very small following. Glad I got one when I did but definitely need to find spare parts to put away for wear and tear.

Statement from FN to guns.com:

No more rumors. FN America has completed our final production run of the commercial legacy SCAR series in the U.S. This includes the 16S, 17S and 20S but not SCAR 15P. What’s currently in our market is all that remains—so if you’ve been wanting one, now’s the time to grab it before it’s gone.

None of this affects FN’s global military SCARs – these are still in demand and still in production.

Look for more info leading up to SHOT Show 2026!

If you own a commercial legacy SCAR, don’t worry about support or parts. Owners can still receive service through our support center and spare parts will remain available through official distributors for a period of time. As for accessories, magazines for the legacy SCAR 17S and SCAR 20S will continue to be available in the future; however, the supply of accessories such as barrel assemblies will be limited over the next five years.

This - along with the references to "legacy SCARs" - leads me to believe they're going to be unveiling a Gen 2 SCAR in January.

(They've already stated that their new IPC is not intended as a SCAR replacement.)

For the love of something holy, can we get a full length rail and trigger that doesnt suck or cost $400 to replace? No reason why a gun sporting that price tag cant have a full length rail system.

Yeah, I expect we'll see a longer handguard, and with MLOK rather than a quad rail.

The rifle market has changed noticeably in the two decades since it was initially designed.

Fingers crossed for a Sr25/PMAG-compatible magwell too, though it's a long shot. FN likely wants to retain their proprietary mags as an additional moneymaker, and to retain cross-compatibility with the earlier generation.

I think those of us that own a Scar, especially the 17, are about to see values go up on our rifles.

Not necessarily. If it does end up being replaced by a Gen 2 that's objectively better or at least has more modern features, those that got or want a SCAR because it's the "best" will gravitate towards that.

That means little demand for the legacy/Gen 1 SCAR among new buyers, as well as used Gen 1 SCARs hitting the market from current owners who are upgrading to the Gen 2. That would likely push values down for a bit.

The value would come later down the road from folks who want a "retro" Gen 1 SCAR for its GWOT vibes, or because it reminds them of playing Modern Warfare as a kid, and that would probably take a while to materialize. (Like the new batch of folks who want retro A1/A2-style ARs right now, decades after they were discontinued.)

I agree with RogueJSK. In the meantime, though, vendors are hyping it up, “End of life for the SCAR”, “Get them before they are gone forever”. Price used to be $3000. Now, it’s $3400.

There is hardly anything new about guns suddenly going up in demand, and therefore commanding higher prices once people realize they won’t be available as new any longer. I could cite many, many examples I’ve seen over the years. There are many motivations from “I’ve always wanted one, so now’s the time to buy,” to “I had one like that ….”

I almost got sucked into buying a “retro” AR when Brownells announced them several years ago because they resembled the M16 I carried long ago. Fortunately the realization that I’d fire it a few times and then I’d just have to keep finding room to store it for the rest of my days brought me to my senses.

lol. I bought my original Scar17 early on when they were around $2700 I think it was. Even if they did go up, I can’t imagine letting it go.

Haha, yes this is definitely the best way! They do tend to multiply when you have this approach...

Bare minimum but I need a couple firing pin springs. Good thing is many parts are 16/17 compatible.
