Just got a new sig 400 and only has one magazine. Which is one of the better brands to look at. Seen plastic aluminum or steel. One better than the other

I've shot thousands of rounds through GI metal mags.

Magpul is fancier and they work just as well, IME.

All the big names(Magpul,D&H,Lancer,GI) should perform great. Its all about what you like: looks and feel. Buy a few name brands and see which one you like and buy as many as you can. I like D&H and Magpul M3s the best.

I use Magpul and Daniel Defense in my M400, but as stated, there are many others that also perform very well.

I have a mixture of 30rd aluminum, 30rd Lancer AWM's, and 20rd aluminum mags. Also a couple of shorty 10 rounders that I use when shooting from a bench. All work fine. I also picked a half dozen steel 30 rounders a few years ago on sale, they work fine but damn they're heavy. Unless you're planning to run over them with a truck, I'd stick with aluminum mags.

I haven't experience this particular problem, but I've read that some AR-15 mag wells are a bit tight and won't accept a polymer magazine without some effort being expended. Or not at all. If you're interested in polymer mags, get a half dozen at first and make sure they work in your rifle(s), then buy more if you like them. Aluminum ones always work, until that truck rolls over them anyway. That's why you keep spares.

I only really buy Okay Surefeed aluminum.

Does anyone have any experience with Troy Mags?

I have usgi, pmags and now lancers. I like Lancers the best. the others worked fine but the lancers seem to be the best features of all the others

I have 17 USGI mags...cause I got them at a discount..I’ve got four black polymer for my 300blackout.

When I was in the service or policing we used what was issued..mostly usgi....at the range as a cop I saw a lot of the polymer ones...We had to provide our own mags....they both worked.
the only upside to the polymer ones, was when some fool drove over the range while we were scoring targets, and smooshed a few mags...the polymer ones just sank into the soft dirt...the usgi aluminum ones folded...

IMO until you have enough GI mags don't waste money getting stuff that's more expensive, sometimes way more expensive (and only potentially marginally better) like the lancers. Of the GI mags I happen to like the Okay surefeed ones the best, but D&T are just fine. Sure the al ones are a bit more fragile but they are the best bang for the buck full stop. The best prices is in 100rd cases

hard to beat USGI...i have a cpl hundred and I have bout 50 Magpul of various ganerations. Ive never had an issue out of ANY of them, even these with the old style followers are good to go.

I've been using Lancers and few D&H mags but quite frankly, I wouldn't specifically buy Lancers unless you have money to burn, I only bought them because at the time, they about the same price of Magpuls; Alum mags are fine.

I have USGI and Magpul G2 and G3 30 rounders, and they are all good, but it's also worth getting some aluminum 20 rounders, either OKAY, Brownells, or USGI if you can find the older ones with aluminum followers. They are super reliable and very convenient for bench shooting or to just to have more compactness.

Not that I'm adding much, but the MagPul 20-round mags work just dandy too. Keep at least a couple around; they'll make themselves convenient.

I have used USGIs, Magpul PMAGs, Tango Down Arc Magazines, Daniel Defense 32s, HK Maritime magazines. I keep this variety around for the sake of testing (i.e. if there is a platform that isn't compatible with a type of magazine, I want to know).

I standardized on Lancer AWMs a few years ago and haven't looked back. I like the longevity of steel feed lips, and the light weight and impact resistance of the plastic bodies.

I don't expect that many here will remember the bad old days of the 1994 assault weapons ban when we could only have 10+ round magazines if they were made prior to September 13th, 1994. I saw a lot of worn out USGI feedlips in my time, hence my preference for the steel feedlips on the lancers.

These days, it's not so much of an issue if you're willing to stock magazines. Some of us probably have a lifetime supply of magazines in and around our benches.

The newest USGI magazines have orange followers, which replicate the two-legged magpul anti-tilt followers, so they're good to go. In my area of the country, PMAGS, USGIs and Lancers are still plentiful.

If you're just starting out, I'd get a couple examples of each and see which one you like the best.

I've got mostly Pmags and Lancers, with a handful each of Daniel Defense, Amend2, D&H and USGI. All have always worked fine in my SIG rifles. I'd like to get more metal mags but through our regular supply channels they're always sold out whenever I looked, even before the madness began.

I forget why but I had a coupon/discount code that got them down to cheap. SO I bought a bunch of them. They seem fine. They aren't in the league of the HK ones for fit/finish but I can't see anything particularly wrong with them. I too used to like the idea of a steel mag and bought a bunch of the HK ones a long time ago but at this point I do think the Pmags and particularly the lancers are actually more durable.

I'm going to get some Lancers and Gen 3 Window Pmags. A dozen here and there. I'd like to get a case of Okays too. Can never go wrong with Okay mags. I have a few guns that won't accept polymer mags.
