Model 870s are still in wide spread use across the country. Have you seen any issues getting spare parts for the 870 or is it business as usual with Remarms?

Shotguns are nearly dead in the US LE world. When they break, the AR-15 replaces them.

I realize the AR has become the long gun of choice. It's my understanding there are still quite a few 870s in police cruisers around US/World. My question isn't about the popularity of the 870 compared to the AR15. I'm asking if anyone knows of agencies having problems getting spare parts for those weapons that are still in use.

I think any agency that has 870s should have enough parts left to last awhile. With ARs replacing them, shotguns will probably have less usage.

We got ARs about 10 years ago. We are still using the same old Benelli M1 Super 90s that we got in the late 90s. I have not had to replace any parts except rear sights that get knocked out.

We have 10 in service in patrol cars. I have six new unused guns in the armory. I clean and lube them every year. I should probably fire a few rounds through each. But they're my backups in case something breaks, then I will have a parts gun.

Not minority enough!

Yes. Very much.

Many large agencies don’t actually stock a lot of parts. They stock guns. When guns break, they get replaced out of stores and the damaged weapon is sent in for repair or replacement. The service contract is part of the deal.

Remington in its current form will not service any of the older guns and will not honor warranty repairs. A certain nameless agency that I’m familiar with has quite a few broken 870s (mainly extractors). That agency is looking at alternatives to the 870 as a result.

My agency just sold all of theirs to Stricher's in MN and gave us the option of buying them. No thanks! They are express's

Yes. Parts are basically unavailable last I checked. Remington has left their customer base high and dry.

I'm still clinging to our 870s, and so far have managed to convince them to let us keep them because we have about 10 years worth of ammo on-hand and they're costing us nothing. But when that ammo runs out or stuff starts breaking, I imagine they'll be gone. Maybe a couple will get converted to less-lethal, but if we're going to go that route I'd rather sell the shotguns and go 40mm.

Yep, we can't get parts and are cannibalizing ours.

Man, this thread makes me think I want to scour the pawn shops for stray 870s... even if just for parts later on.

I appreciate the feedback, gentlemen. This confirms what I've been hearing. Sad.
I know the 870 isn't the latest and greatest but a police 870 is still a reliable, versatile shotgun.

My dept converted our 870s to less lethal usage. AR 15's along with 870's are in every cruiser.

I'm glad this question was raised because it was something that's good to know, but I would have never thought about until it was time to obtain parts.

We sold off our 30+/— 870s about two years ago for 40mm "less lethal" launchers. We still haven't received the launchers...

Exactly.
Needing an ejector spring or a carrier right about now would suck. I'm surprised that there's not an aftermarket company making stuff. There seems to be plenty-o-parts for a Remington 700.

I nominate Wilson Combat to fill the void.
