That's what is on top of my newer AR. I think it's the Spitfire AR model?
I like it and it's different from the EoTech. Also like that if the batteries fail, there's an etched reticle.

I run an MRO on my AR pistol (CMMG Banshee in 10 mm), Holosun red dot (EOtech-like reticle) on my M1 carbine, and an ACOG 3.5x fixed (so nice) on my Sig M400 AR. I've tried LVPOs but too bulky and heavy.

If you're talking about the 3.5x ACOGs that I am thinking of, they're heavier and bulkier than a lot of LPVOs.

Compared to 18 year old eyes back in 1986 boot camp, iron sights for me out to about 300 yards is it and that's pushing it. Did it a few months ago with my Garand.

The AR is no longer the HD weapon as I purchased a Mossberg 590 Tactical. That took over. The ARs are still readily available but not as close as the shotgun is. More of a fun gun as you put it. Still want accuracy but would only probably be used seriously in a SHTF situation.

Note to add: I've never used an ACOG before. It was irons in 1986 and I never got around to buying one or even trying one. They do pique my interest a bit.

I'd take a strong look at either an Acog or a LPVO based off your requirements. The ACOG uses the Bindon aiming concept and is much like shooting a pistol with a dot, just at range, if you want a comparison. I've seen people who have practiced with one be very fast and pretty accurate with it even up close. For LPVOs I've been enjoying the Zeiss Conquest 1-4 SFP ZQAR and also the Primary Arms FFP 1-6 Raptor. Both are reasonably priced and fall within your needs but you should try before you buy if you can. Above that will likely be dedicated by your budget. Obviously, you don't need to go with any of these options but just some thoughts on it. Good luck and let us know what you wind up with.

Standard ACOG. Perhaps in terms of weight, but length? Perhaps LVPOs have improved by leaps in bounds in the last 3-4 years. Regardless, huge fan of my ACOG.

I wasn't knocking the ACOG; I just know that the 3.5x ones are bigger/heavier than the typical military TA31 type. I'd say they are still shorter than most LVPOs though, as you said. Bulk is subjective; many would likely find the slimmer contour of an LVPO appealing, even though it's longer. I like the Elcan Specter sights; they're heavier and bulkier than most ACOGs and LPVOs.

While Elcan is short bulky, it weighs 22oz WITH its integral mount, so not much different than an LPVO with a mount, and lighter than most

In my experience some red dots are better than others in this regard. I had an Aimpoint Pro that never was a dot, triangle, smudge, blur, etc.. I thought this would be true for all red dots until I tried a Aimpoint Comp M4, it was and is a dot to my eyes. So my advice is try some of the better red dots if you want a red dot.
