ExpatI Was Gifted A Valkyrie AR15 Upper...
...and I'm not sure what to do with it. Seems like a great barrel: Faxon 20", muzzle device I am intrigued by. Unknown handguard 15" an nice fit to me, like a BCM size, iron sights are unknown to me. I don't like the fit to the upper receiver, steps and not square to perfection.
I have a feeling I am going to rebuild around the barrel or should I just go play and stop the stare at the gift horse?
I'm thinking Vltor EMOD stock and buffer tube, Geissele Super Tricon trigger, Arken 5x25 scope, San Tan lower, and Atlas bipod.

ExpatNothing?

sourdough44The gifting part is great, I’d appreciate the thought. I kinda think the Valkyrie stalled out some, as a cartridge. To me, the option of heavier bullets with the 5.56 & faster rifling is enough. If wanting heavier bullets, I’ll use a 243.
That aside, if you got it from a relative or friend, I’d keep it & make a go of it.

Ronin101I mean I would shoot it and see how it shoots. faxon is a midgrade barrel. I assume you are mounting a scope?

fritzOften, we get what we pay for.
As noted above, Faxon is mid-grade. OK, but nothing special.
You didn't state the receiver manufacturer, so that's an unknown.
Assembly could have been by a quality gunsmith or by bubba.
Shoot it and see what it does. Don't invest in very much Valkyrie ammo at this time. Attach the upper to an existing lower at this time, to limit your expenses.
If you really want a quality Valkyrie rifle, start from scratch with quality components or a known manufacturer.

All good points. I'll put it over a San Tan lower, I have a couple and I like the ambi controls. Builder is solid.

These statements are contradictory.

True, my reference was to headspacing, not fit and finish of unknown unbranded components.
