Anyone have any experience with a Wilson Combat Protector?
I'm seeing a lot of them on Gunbroker at obscenely reduced prices from sticker and is there a reason to avoid one? Also, how secure is the rail? Looking at HD shots of it, it looks like it's just connected to the barrel nut. There doesn't seem to be any anti-rotation tabs or additional locking points.

If you're referring to the AR-style pistol version of the Protector, I assume you're seeing dealers liquidating their current inventory due to the ATF "changing their mind" on pistol braces. They're suppossedly planning to tell everyone they have to register such pistols as NFA items now.

No, these are 16" rifles that are about $1200 compared to the $2100 sticker.

They're also 5.56 and not something odd like .300 HAMR or something wonky.

I purchased an “S” version not too long ago and reviewed it here:

Wilson Combat’s discussion about the “Protector S,” some of which may relate to other Protector models.

I have only a bit over 400 rounds through mine, but am perfectly happy with it in the role I envisioned for it. That’s more of a “designated marksman” weapon than something to rattle around in a pickup bed or even to be used for every training session. But I did use it just recently in a training course that usually gets fired with an Aimpoint-sighted Colt, and the 1-6 scope was a benefit for the longer stages.

Well crap!!!!
That is a great price on a great gun. Not sure the deal but if I did not just build my own I would buy in an instant.

I built my own using all Wilson parts except for the barrel and trigger.
Wilson Combat barrels are pretty heavy and I was trying to save weight.
I find the handguard to be solid and am not worried about it.

Not sure why they are cutting the price so much.

Kind of like a couple years back when LaRue was doing their builder kits with free upper assembly.
The kit cost me $1,080 granted I had to assemble the lower. If I would have bought the complete gun from them wild have been around $2k.

Anything wrong with their triggers? I’m really thinking about this or a POF Minuteman, but for the Minuteman I won’t have to replace anything while on the Wilson I’ll need an ambi charging handle and an ambi safety.

I doubt there is anything wrong with their triggers but have never used one.
I am just an ALG or LaRue trigger tan and I put an ALG in this build.

I have a handful of Wilson uppers/rifles, plus Wilson parts in every non-Wilson AR-10 and AR-15. I have no issues with any of the rifles or components.

Wilson triggers are top notch. The drop-in design is nice when changing or cleaning triggers. I have them in all my ARs. I prefer the single stage model, which breaks very cleanly at around 4 pounds. The trigger reset is short, crisp, and audible. My AR9G (Glock pattern 9mm SBR) has Wilson's 2-stage trigger. Their 2-stage might be thought of as a 1.5-stage trigger -- I pretty much blow through the 1st stage, and it doesn't feel all that much different than my single stage models.

I have one and have been happy with it. I'd prefer trigger with less than a 4lb trigger pull but it's okay otherwise. The one thing I do not like is the receiver front where the logo is much wider than a mil spec receiver and I can't use my Brass Goat on it to catch brass as I can on all my other AR15's. Just picking nits I suppose.
