Did a coarse ladder test today using LC-LR-06 brass, 175 SMK's, BR-2's and RL-15. This is for my LRB M14 with a new heavy barrel using the ICR rifling from Lothar-Walther. I used a Bassett single-point side mount and a Trijicon Huron 3-9x40.

Looks like 42.0 grains of RL-15 was the trick! Five rounds came in at 0.465 inches. I'll do some more testing in this range.

Some of the other loads came in around 1 MOA with the exception of the lightest load which came in around 2 MOA.

Looks like the barrel is breaking and and the action has settled into the bedding very well.

Very nice.
Now, how about some more pictures of the rifle? Smile

I know you discussed it before, including the requirements for the scope, but an update would be nice to see. I am still curious about the "sniper" category.

Here are some fresh pics...

The Vintage Sniper matches allow for any M14 with any weight barrel in a wood or composite stock, bedded or not. The rifle cannot have a rear lug for bedding. The rifles must have a single-point side mounted scope mount which means it cannot have a mounting point on the clip guide, like a Sadlak or a Brookfield. Pretty much, the Bassett will be the king of side mounts for these matches, which is what I have. A Bassett low picatinny.

The scope must be a 3-9x40 with no exposed turrets, although you may remove the turret caps to adjust elevation when switching from 300 to 600 yards. Ranges shot are 300 to 600 yards, 10-shots, single-feed and timed with a pre-recorded broadcasted script of firing line commands.

Cheek risers are not allowed, although I do use one for load development. It gets removed during practice and match day. You may only use one sandbag and no rear bag.

The rifle is built on a LRB M14SA receiver. I bought this receiver in 2008 and it was my first M14 and has been rebuilt a few times over the years. The stock is a custom composite stock that a guy made in 2012 and consists of three layers of carbon fiber, graphite and kevlar. I've had this on a couple of rifles before and it has been used in the field for hunting over multiple seasons. It has harvested deer meat before.

The barrel is a Lothar Walther test barrel in 308 with the ICR rifling. It has maybe 100 rounds through it and the rifle was freshly bedded recently. This is the best group I've ever shot out of these barrels.

The trigger is a Shooting Sight adjustable trigger set to 4.5 pounds. The scope is a Trijicon Huron 3-9x40. It's very clear glass.

That is a really good group, even more so for a semi auto. And only using a 9 power scope.

I assume that was shot at 100 yards?

Yessir! I've got to load some up again and head out to the 600. I might be going on Wednesday.
