As per the title, this is what I am struggling with. I've tried squinting and putting Scotch tape over my right eye but it's still a struggle for me. I would like to master the iron sight with this before relaying on a RDS. Anyone have any insight on how they have overcome this issue?

When I was a firearms instructor in the CG, I taught myself to shoot both ways, so that when I taught I could demo it. I just shot the basic marksmanship course a few times until I qualified Expert (maybe four times). The M16 was far more difficult than the pistol left handed.

It can be done. Initially it was about 4 hours going thru the postitions lefty then shooting it..all told about four hours. But I was teaching it about twice a month and I tried to do it lefty first then did it righty for most of the class(there’s always a lefty) so I had lefty re-enforcement…

Just keep at it.

It sucks!
Did it in the Military, again on the Police. You feel like an idiot trying to flip over to the other side because it's so unnatural.
As Mike said, just keep at it, it does feel better / less awkward after time. Dry-fire, dry-fire, dry-fire....

(Pro-tip, if you have a sling, mount it to the bottom of the stock or the right hand side of the stock- since you're right hand dominate. When you flip the sling over to the bottom / right side- less chance of you choking yourself out with the sling Wink )

That's what I do, and it solves the aiming issue. Doesn't fix the backwards controls and the uncomfortable feeling of having the ejection port right in front of my face, but at least I can align the sights with the target.

Update: I took advantage of a private range on my friend's land this weekend practicing my support side shooting. I don't there are any magic shortcuts to get better at this. I think it just requires the repetitions to strengthen my left eye muscle and left side muscle memory. I used Scotch tape on my right eye glass len during the beginning but could do without it with just a bit of squinting by the end of the weekend.

It’s amazing how your brain can cope with this stuff. My wife, right eye dominant, had left eye cataract surgery. She is now left eye dominant while waiting for her (delayed x 2) right eye cataract removal.

I'm a heavily left eye dominant right handed shooter. Pistols are easy, I just move them over to my left line of sight. AR's or other rifles without a drop comb I have to shoot left handed. I can do this with both eyes open as not much is coming through the right.

What I've done to deal with this over the years is shoot rifles with a drop comb/stock. Think Sig 55X, SCAR, CZ Bren, etc. One of those with a standard AR height optics riser puts my left eye right in line with the rifle shouldered on the right. Been shooting competitions like this for years, can't complain.
