This was built on a Sako receiver donor rifle
A bunch of guns , mostly quality stuff from the 80s up, from an estate have been showing up at the local gun shows
Someone is helping the family slowly liquidate a large collection .

This one showed up at the end of the day Sunday at the last gun show.

I usually detest sporterized bubba guns , but this one got my immediate attention

Traded 20oz of generic silver rounds for it , approx $500, that’s probably less than a clean factory Sako mosin would bring today

The story is a gunsmith in SC built it, no markings or stamps anywhere though

Pics or it didn’t happen lol

That may well be the nicest Mosin I've ever seen. Somebody did quality work there.

Oh, that poor, mistreated thing...

Finnish Mosins are the best quality ones already. They don't need to be gussied up.

Here's what it could have looked like originally. This is my Sako M39 alongside a VKT M39:

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

ELK,
How long is that barrel?
The picture of it on the pool table sure makes it look long.

PS
I don't know anything about Mosins.

The only thing I’ve noticed I’d change is the original military trigger
It has ALL of the original creep, but has been smoothed up and there is no perceptible stacking , you just keep pulling until it goes bang
Timney makes a drop in replacement now, back then there probably weren’t many options

Much fancier than mine! Haven't shot it in ages. Need to get around to that.

Congratulations on a really nice pick-up.

This one is a Tikkakoski on a Russian Imperial receiver.

Fair point, I missed that. But it's on the scope mount, so may have been an end user rather than the original "Bubba".

I’m pretty sure someone messed with after the old man died
Everything else is pretty immaculate on the gun
Post maker damage for sure
This one is way beyond the average home gunsmith

A beauty. No shame in what was done to that one.
