I would expect a bigger discount at that volume. I can buy cases cheaper than that.

40 cents a round doesn't seem like a very good deal.

That was my first thought, but then I realized it’s about bragging rights: When my bud tells me he had to take some of his ammo out of the safe and put it on a shelf, I could point to that barrel and say, “Yeah, my reserve supply of M855 wouldn’t fit in my safe either.”

It’s like “spam” cans of Eastern Bloc military ammunition. The quality isn’t that great and they’re a pain to get open in a hurry (remember Islandlwana), but they’ll store forever and when H32N163 hits and wipes out 95% of humanity, our great-grandchildren will be grateful we stocked up.

I suppose my intent was not that it was a fantastic deal (Understandably not necessarily in the spirit of this sub section), but that it was a unique quantity and packaging that I had never seen before and would be of interest to the readership because it is a little batty.

Resourceful crowd.

BTW, McMaster Carr is a great place to do business with.
