i8mtmAttempted scammer from classified WTB posting
Hi, I currently have a WTB Scar 16 barrel posting in the classifieds. Today I was contacted by someone who said he had one for sale and even sent pictures.
He is *not* a Sigforum member (I asked him). I did some research and found he has been answering multiple "WTB" ads on different boards. He copies and pastes pictures of the item from elsewhere and represents them as his. I have the whole exchange and screen shots from the different boards he has posted on if you would like me to forward to you via email.
At any rate, I don't want him trying to scam other Forum members who may not be as technical as I am (I work in IT security).
He is going by the email: crudodo31@gmail.com
and the name "dodo cru"
He said he is based out of Illinois.
He is spoofing his originating IP and relaying mail via a blacklisted IP - 74.125.82.179 which is in California.
Again, I have all this info documented. Of course he can change email accounts and try again, but forum members should be aware that
crudodo31@gmail.com is a scammer!
Thanks,
i8mtm

sigmonkeyYou did it to yourself by posting your email address in the open.
Never do that. Put your email address in your profile and only members who are logged in can see that.
(Being in IT, you should know better.)

parabellumHere's what I posted in that thread.

I can start a thread to warn members, but the real security against criminal filth is you guys. You have to be savvy. If you're emailing me, telling me you think a scam is in the works, then, you're going to be OK, since you're not going to go through with a deal.
If someone is registered and relaying contact info to some POS crook who is too lazy and stupid to make an honest living, I'm not sure how I can guard against it. We already require members to be logged in to access profiles.
I'm open to suggestions, gentlemen. If I could, I'd hit the off switch for every con man on the planet. Just lights out, you exist no more.

Rey HRHSince one of the rules of selling in SigForum is that it's not listed anywhere else, wouldn't it be sensible to sellers to sell only to SigForum members? That's just my thought and something I would do myself if I were selling something here.

Yup. My personal rule is, you have to post "I'll take it" in the thread, and the only way to do that is you are a member.
