I need some advice/guidance. Since I dropped cable, my main personal email has been terminated. This is the confidential email that is in my profile.

I have set up a new personal email to replace the defunct one. I tried to update it here, but I received the notification that I cannot use "free email". My new email is Proton mail.

Is there an email hosting site I can use to satisfy the requirement here? Proton has paid email options, but I wanted to test drive for a while before I decide whether to upgrade. Does the paid version of Proton satisfy the requirement?

No, no testing site, but I can tell you that Proton mail is not allowed here for use as your primary email address.

If you have no option for an acceptable email I can set you up an email for forum use on one of my domains.

For the low, incredible, price of, free.
