We now have 2017 dates for our flagship, two-day Practical Fundamentals class at SIG SAUER Academy in Epping, N.H. The class dates are June 2 & 3, and we will have access to the indoor range for an add-on day for those interested, and we'll be offering a Pistol Skill Builder class on June 4 (see the other thread).

Additional information can be found right here on the OpSpec Training website.

This is not a basic class. At minimum, students should have taken a basic handgun safety course and have experience with their firearm and gear. We expect students to have experience shooting on a line in a safe manner, including loading, reloading and shooting from the holster. Shooters with IDPA, USPSA, NRA Action Pistol, 3-Gun, law enforcement and military experience meet the program prerequisites.

Practical Fundamentals
This course teaches the techniques and philosophy of what OpSpec Training believes a shooter needs to improve to their full potential. This is not a beginning handgun course.

Practical Fundamentals may be repeated several times to further one’s understanding of the concepts involved. OpSpec Training is a collaboration of custom gunsmiths, competitive shooting, and law enforcement specialists who have created a training environment and curriculum that is ‘process’ oriented rather than ‘goal’ oriented.

Instructors*: Bruce Gray

When: June 2 & 3, 2017, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Class size: Limited to 24 students, with a minimum of 12.

Tuition: $450.

Range Fees: Included in class fee.

Ammunition: Round count will be 600 - 800 rounds.

Important Links and Information
Although not absolutely required, we'd like you to register on the OpSpec Training website for the class so we know you're enrolled and have your contact information. Registration at the SIG SAUER Academy site is required.

* Instructors listed for specific programs have committed to teach the class on those dates. Although we do not anticipate changes, travel delays, family emergencies or illness may result in instructor substitutions.

Where:
SIG SAUER Academy
233 Exeter Road

Where to Stay
SIG SAUER Academy has a special rate arrangement with three local hotels, all within 15 minutes of the Academy. Contact - pick up the phone and call - the hotels directly, and ensure you reference the SIG SAUER Corporate Rate when making reservations.

Another option is the Plumer Homestead, a bed and breakfast owned and operated by a competitive shooter local to the area. Visit the Plumer Homestead website and contact Kelly and let her know you're taking a class at SIG SAUER Academy.

Food at Lunch Break
To ensure you get the most "bang for your buck" we keep lunch breaks to one hour. If you have the ability to bring your lunch, you can do that. There is a collection of fast food restaurants (Subway, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Burger King) about 2.5 miles (5 minutes) to the west near the intersection of Route 125 and Route 101.

Evil exists. You can not negotiate with, bribe or placate evil. You're not going to be able to have it sit down with Dr. Phil for an anger management session either.

The SIG classes are always popular due to the location and - of course - the Pro Shop. I swear, some of you could spend all day browsing in that place....

Helpful Tips for June's OPSEC Practical Fundamentals Class at the Sig Academy:

1. The Exeter Academy's graduation is the same weekend so the local hotels are likely already booked solid. You might have to get a room in Portsmouth instead.
2. For folks driving up please bring an extra folding chair or two for our classmates who are flying in. And if you can let them put their drinks in your coolers that'd be great too.
3. In early April the Sig Academy started a new service for students and worked out an arrangement with a very good local restaurant. You can now order sandwiches at the start of each day's class by simply filling in an order form that your instructors will hand out. Then at lunch you simply go up to the Sig Pro Shop , hand them $12 and pick up your sandwich. So far the reviews on the sandwiches has been that they're very tasty and a real time-saver for students. Hopefully they'll be offering this service for our easy June shoot (no promises).
4. It's typically hot on the ranges in June. Liquid Grip or a small hand towel are two ways to keep your hands dry.

Class Dinner on Friday Night, June 2nd?

Steve, Any chance we can arrange for a Class Dinner for Friday night, June 2nd? Those dinners are a lot of fun and they're instructive too.

Spell check did me in on my first post. I meant our "early" June shoot not our "easy" June shoot. Not that Practical Fundamentals is difficult physically but it definitely is challenging mentally. I think of Practical Fundamentals as obtaining a graduate degree in trigger control. It's the class I come away from with the most notes. Thanks to you guys I've gone from missing the target occasionally and having wide groups (& I mean all over the target wide) two years ago to being able to put 150 consecutive rounds into a 4 inch circle one year later which is something I didn't think was possible for me. I'm hoping I'll be ready to take my shooting up another level at this year's class. Those take home drills and target recommendations Bruce gave us were a difference-maker for me.

We will see. It really depends on a few factors including the instructor's schedules.
