Sig P320 X5 Legion in IDPA SSP Division
Tried to search this topic but no success. I'm looking to use the above pistol in IDPA SSP I know to take off the magwell in order to get down to the 43.0oz weight limit. I know "Optics" are all the "RAVE" but wanted to stay traditional and stay with a post/notch system, your thoughts

Yes, with the magwell off, it fits into the SSP category.

You can run it in ESP with the magwell, but need to lose the grip weight.

True but then you're limited to only 10 rounds per magazine if shooting in ESP division

I'm not convinced there's a significant advantage to shooting SSP with 15 rounds mags vs. the benefits of ESP with 10.

Generally speaking, you're going to have to reload at least once, no matter what. With 15 rounders, it's almost guaranteed it's at the end of the stage and either flat-footed and/or behind cover.

I also think that most stage designers (even if it's subconsciously) still design stages with 10 rounders in mind.

When they made they change, I switched back to SSP to see if there was a time advantage with the higher capacity. I didn't find one. Actually quite the opposite. After a few matches I switched back to ESP (and eventually to CCP) and haven't looked back.
I even looked back at my match videos over the past few years and found the same thing - I was actually faster reloading earlier in the stages vs than having to reload at the end to make 2-3 shots (and usually behind a position of cover).

Just food for thought.

Every once in a while you can see a 12 or 15rd. stage and that can keep you from having to perform a reload.

They also make an aftermarket magwell that is lighter in weight and will still keep you in ESP weight limits.

Not around here. Many stages at 17-18 rounds or with downloaded start to force even the 15+1 SSPs to reload.

I tried it but went back to ESP 10+1 that I am used to. Heck, I even shoot USPSA Limited 10.

IDPA- we’re going to allow higher capacity to increases SSP popularity.

Also IDPA- we’re also going to design stages to force everyone to reload so those that chose SSP for higher capacity don’t have an advantage.

That is truly the dumb shit IDPA is known for.

Well, strictly speaking, it isn't "IDPA" dreaming up longer stages, it is local MDs.

But if that still annoys, you, there is always USPSA.
