Sorry guys...it's been a busy couple of weeks again. Noah bought a truck, and the shopping process and finally finding a first vehicle that a kid could afford was pretty time consuming. I introduced him to the junkyard today, and we spent a bunch of time digging around for a transmission crossmember and some other stuff (unfortunately, still looking for a crossmember).

Anyway, point being I've neglected this for too long and we need a new challenge. Going back to handguns, I'd like to try something kind of in the spririt of Richard's Pacific Rim stage from a few weeks back.

The target will be a B8, but with the lower left quarter covered with a white "no shoot" target as pictured.

Distance: 10 Yards

Par Time: 5 Seconds

Shoot 5 rounds at the B8. Any hits (even clipping the edge) on the white "No-Shoot" is a failure. Start over and try again.

Go over the par time and it's -1 point for every quarter second (so 5.01 seconds is -1, 5.25 is -2, 5.50 -3, and so on)

I haven't tried it yet, so we'll see how it goes. There's a points advantage for getting closer to the no-shoot, but hopefully the par time is enough to make it tough.

I have to ask, is this center fire handguns only, or is a rim fire permitted?

Shot 2 targets last night.

47.

48. Maybe. <--- I need to use a scoring plug, that one might be out.

Dang Richard, I knew your targets were good, but I didn't realize how good until I tried shooting this. It didn't go so good...there were a lot of failures for hitting no-shoots.

For some reason I decided to try it with the P228 instead of my 320. My best target was this one, and two of those shots just barely squeaked in. It also took me 6.89 Seconds, so final score was 42-8 (time) = 34

Noah struggled too, but did better than me. He shot his CZ75 PCR and got it done in 6.71. So 47-7 (time) = 40

I'm gonna try this again next week when I have more time.

Quit bellyaching ftetch! I’ll post my first attempts tonight or tomorrow. If they don’t make you feel better, nothing will.

Three tries with S&W41 .22 before a clean target within par time. And I only had three targets.

47

Nice work! Maybe I can get some redemption with rimfire. I just polished the chamber on the Mk4 the and ordered the Volquartsen firing pin and extractor because it choked on me pretty bad during our club's steel shoot the other night. This will be a good way to break the new parts in.

These were both shot with my M&P 2.0 Compact. I'm going to try again, with the same gun and my TX-22. I sure hope that I can do better than this.

Went back out today and brough my duty gun this time...because this drill done pissed me off, and my MkIV parts aren't here yet.

It was so much easier with the dot-equipped gun than the P228. I still couldn't quite make time and keep it clean, but I got a lot closer. I was working from a DeSantis thumb-break SpeedLite holster because I had some errands to run afterwards and didn't want to deal with my duty belt. The supressor-height sights drag a bit in that holster and the thumb-break isn't quite as quick as the SLS system...I think I could have done it out of the 6360.

I shot it 6 or 7 times, with about 75% of them being "clean" with no hits on the no-shoot. This was the best one: 5.08 seconds, so 49 - 1 (Time) = 48

Maybe these scores aren't comparing apples to apples.

Start position not specified in protocol, so
I started from low ready; no draw from holster allowed at our indoor range.

Ah, you're right...I never specified. Oops. Starting at the low ready makes more sense considering range restrictions, so let's stick with that.

If I get the time after my MkIV parts get in I'll try it again with both the P228 and the P320 from the low ready and see what kind of difference it makes.
