ScreamingCockatooMy classic 226 got cleaned and lubed
Decided to take down my 1985 226 and clean it as I've shot it a few times in the last few years without cleaning it.
Maybe 50 rounds.
It's been relegated to home defense and resides close by for night defense.
Here it is in all it's classic glory.
I'm surprised at the lack of wear on the rails and slide. Well I do keep it lubed up like, you know how Marzy describes it...

patwYou ain't kidding about no rail wear. Whatever your doing to it, keep it up.

nhracecraftI'm noticing the lack of 'smilies' on the barrel and thinking, that's a pretty low round count for a 'JF' W.German P226!

ScreamingCockatooI believe this was a Department of Energy security force arsenal weapon, ever issued.
I've put maybe 300 rounds through it.

nhracecraftNever issued...Those are the best kind!
The Hammer Face wear matches that of the barrel as well...Nice P226!

Maybe the nitron barrel finish explains the lack of ’smilies’.
The barrel finish of my P226 X5 Competition is plain SS. It showed ’smilies’ after its first range trip.
The barrel finish of my P238 is nitron. It shows NO ’smilies’ after many range trips. Despite the much greater barrel tilt in recoil.
Nitron seems to be tough stuff.

Rey HRHNice. Thank you for posting.
It reminds of my West German P226 that I passed on to my nephew.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Mars_AttacksI ordered us some slide grease to shoot them.
The next SC's BBQ and SigShoot will involve Sigs.

Blume9mmI'm thinking an older no rail P226 is getting put on my list. The worse and most embarrassing problem I've had with my home defense guns is they get dust and lint on them... I guess that's a good thing.

Nitron did NOT exist in 1985. SIG relied on a form of blueing at the time, which was not particularily durable or resistant to wear. Nitron did not become a thing until SIG discontinued making the 'Folded Carbon Steel' Slides (in Germany), and moved to one-piece Stainless Slides. Also, as far as I'm aware, SIG never actually put Nitron on any Barrels, using DLC instead, which is a ridiculously durable 'Diamond Like Coating'. The OP's lack of 'smilies is primarily due to the very low 300 round count, as well as proper lubrication.

Mars_AttacksIt's a blued barrel because it's plum color now.

KobrenFrom what I read the Swiss military were using grease on their P-75 pistols. I guess there is a wide range of choices for lubrication, matter of personal preference.

Nitron
is DLC (applied by Ionbond).
