Found this at a local gun show the other day. I really got to slow down my Sig buying spree but I could not resist this one.
I never had a Sig that had the frame serial number on the barrel also.
It does have the early style trigger bar spring with the original grip panels (the right side will work with this type of spring only). If I want to install the newer spring, I will have to use the new style right side grip panel (which I just found in my stash of parts). The photo is of the panel which came on this 229.
It came with a real nice MecGar 15 round magazine. My 229-1 mags will not fit since this gun has the early narrower mag well. I have two more 15 round MecGar mags coming as well as a MecGar 18 round mag. I did find that a P226, 12 round .40 cal mag will fit (and seems to feed 9mm just fine) however, you can only get 16 rounds in it. I do want to try this P226 mag out just to see how it feeds.
I just found two NOS early trigger bar springs that are coming for spares. Also, if I find a nice early P229/228 13 round mag, I will pick it up for a complete original package.
I really like how this P229 handles. It does not feel as bulky as my later model 229’s.
Any thoughts and/or advice will be appreciated.

Earliest P229s (from AA to AD prefixes) had triple serial numbers, whether they were German or US assembled. Then, the US ones became double like yours. Then, SIG US finally transitioned to just single serial on the frame.
While you’re at it with the TBS, why not change the entire main spring/strut/housing assembly to the newer/current one. Because it’ll be a pain in the rear when it’s time to change out the main spring with the old system.

Good idea. I will stock pile the parts but for now I will just keep it original. Example, the replacement later grip panels I have are like new, but not quite as nice as these.

Just for grins, I checked my CZ 75 PCR (about 2013 mfg.) and 75 Compact (2022 mfg.). They have complete serial numbers on their frames slide, and barrels.
My P6 (mfg. 11-78) has the main serial number on the frame with the last three digits of the serial number on the slide and barrel
It must have been a European thing.

Looks great, nice score! I had a triple serial 229 that I got the slide and controls and all that cerakoted in some shade of nickel. Looked a lot like yours, but like Jupiter, also in .40. I think if it had been a 9mm, I would've kept it.
I really need to have CCR do the CPII treatment on my P226 and get the two tone look going with that one.

They also have the required proof marks, because they were made and assembled in their home country, which is a CIP member state.

Nice pick up! I love the old two-tones and at one time had both a 228 and 229. Now I just have the 229. My only 40 cal in my stable and one of my favorite Sigs. Even grabbed a 357 Sig barrel for it.

My first P229 came as a .40 cal. I picked up a .357 barrel for it and just recently bought a Barsto drop in fit, 9mm barrel. I would have held off on the Barsto barrel if I knew that the P229 9mm (featured in this thread) was coming to live with me.
This was a Sig SAS Custom Shop model that now sports G-10 grips.
Love these P229’s. I am now counting 4 in my stable (the P229 9mm featured in this thread, the SAS model in this post, a neat P229C in 9mm, and a recently purchased P229, M11-1 in 9mm).

That's a really handsome gun. Funny, because I never really cared for reverse two tone, but you know sometimes it takes me decades to come around. Just my thoughts, but a pair of factory wooden grips, ( or close facsimile), would look really good on your P229, again just my opinion.

If I remember correctly, I tried a set of Hogue wood grips on that SAS model when I first got it. They made the grip much too wide for me and I returned them. The G-10 grips with the Sig logo were a special at that time (only 2 sets), so I bought a set. I had to do a little fitting because they were made for one of their Extreme models.

Wood Hogue grips on this 2 tone P239, .357
The wood grips on the above two P239’s work well since these are single stack magazines with narrower grips. The same is for this P6, 9mm (made in 11/78) since it too is a single stack magazine.
Of course, the factory wood grips on this Michigan State Police 100 year anniversary P226, .40 cal, are for display only.

Does anyone know if Sig did reverse two-tone? I picked up a .40DAK off Gunbroker and was wondering if it's natural or refinished. It is a German frame but American assembled.

Plenty of factory SIG RTTs were made. Whether yours is one cannot be determined, unless you have the original case with labels on it. If you have no case, then give SIG a call with serial number. They might be able to help you with the original configuration, if it was made after 2005.

The label on the case is E29R-40-SP, but I'm not sure it's the original case. I did talk to Sig and its S/N was not in their system.

SP = SPecial Configuration
This could well be factory original. Is there further description below that Part Number? Is the serial number label also on the case? Is it a large blue plastic case?
“Not in their system” must mean your gun’s SN predates 2005.

It is the large blue case, no other labels. It has the serial number Sharpied on it, so I'm guessing not original.

All I can offer is hearty congratulations on such a great find. I love the ones like yours that look more nickel than stainless. Beautiful pistol.
