SO I picked up a P226 today at a gun show. I have not been on the forum for awhile. I own a WG P228, German P220 and P220 ST. My new Sig is a non railed DA/SA two tone with stainless slide.
Slide has a dull finish and all nickel controls. It came in a blue Sig box with serial number U667 3XX. No DE or date code. One 10 round mag and an Italian (Damn I just noticed this other mag is a 357/40)

Wondering the approximate year. I have owned an all nickel 228 and a two tone 226 before. Both those guns were a shinier finish. I am wondering about polishing the slide. Not looking for real shiny just not so dull. I'm afraid if I start polishing it will be an all or nothing. Not prepared to spend many hours on this.

So I am wondering about the year and asking for a yay/nay on screwing with the finish. Guess I will be looking for some Mec gar mags.

Sounds like a 2003 gun, based on the serial number thread above. Stainless slide typically has that dull appearance. Not sure why you want to polish it, unless you just want a polished look. If you're not good at it, you just might ruin the appearance.

I guess I'm comparing it to an HK USP compact stainless. Sounds like too much work for me. Oh I figured out the 10 round mags won't lock in properly. It will in my 228. So I was totally screwed on magazines. I bought the 226 So the seller could buy my friend's Legion 229. No good deed goes unpunished.

I'm still considering polishing my 226 slide. Are their other members out there who have done this? Pics? My last issued gun, an all nickel P228 was absolutely beautiful. Also owned a two tone P228. Any ideas on who to ship the slide off to have this done? Looking for the look of a current stainless Sig 1911 not bright and shiny.

You were issued an all nickel P228? Wow. Where was this if you don’t mind me asking?

I wouldn’t try to polish it. Send it to this gentleman for a CPII finish.

I will PM you. Rather not put out the name. One of about 30 police agencies in my county. The time was before the 40 caliber introduction and the P229.
