^^^^ Is it safe to assume a P225 slide won't fit as well? __________________________

Interestingly, the P225 upper does fit it. But, that's the end of it. It does not function on the P226 frame. The reason has to do with the different positions of the disconnector tabs in the frames and their corresponding cutouts in the slides of the P225 vs P226. In the P225, the disconnector tab and the cutout are located more toward the rear, whereas in the P226, they are positioned a little more forward. So, when you slap an original P225 upper onto the P226 frame, there's a disconnect between the P225 recess and the P226 tab, resulting in a dead trigger. Lee's team solved this problem by carving out a forward extension of the cutout on the P225 slide to match the position of the disconnector tab in the P226 frame. ETA: Was in a hurry yesterday to do something else. Back to complete this with pics. This pic compares the position of the disconnector tab on PROTO-1 (modified P226) frame to that on the original P225. It also shows that the length of the dust cover has been shortened to that of the P225. This pic shows the result of Lee's work to extend the cutout forward in PROTO-1's slide to match the position of the disconnector tab in the frame. This message has been edited. I remember that original auction. This is such a cool story and your generosity knows no bounds. Really glad to see that she will end up with a forum member. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

Another mod they did that I recently found out while going over the gun in more details one last time is the revision of the locking insert (LI). The P226 LI won't allow the P225 upper to slide on completely. And, you can't swap in the P225 LI into the P226 frame, since the holes for the TDL on the frame don't line up with the holes on the LI. So, what they did is cutting off most the front face of the P226 LI to the length of the P225 LI, leaving only the very bottom intact, since that's where the insertion hole for the slide catch lever spring is located.
